Pattern Description:
Inspired by delicious and colorful macaroons, these cute baby sweaters are knit in simple garter stitch.
Each side is knit in one piece, and the shoulders are secured with a three-needle bind-off. Two small seams on each side finish the sweaters, which knit up quickly.
Materials Needed & Measurements:
- Yarn:Cascade Ultra Pima, 100% Pima Cotton, 220 yards per skein.
- Quantities required vary by size: 1 to 2 skeins of white (color 3718) and 1 to 2 skeins of the main color. Sample main colors include aqua (3763), hot pink (3802), and golden rod (3747).
- Needle: US 5 24″ circular needle.

- The pattern is available in sizes: newborn, 3 months, 6-9 months, 12-18 months, 2-3 years, and 4 years.
- Gauge is 22 stitches and 22 garter stitch ridges over 4 inches on US 5 needles.

Front Panel Instructions
- Cast On: With MC, cast on 44 (50, 54, 60, 64, 68) stitches.
- Knit Body: Knit in garter stitch with MC for 13.5 cm (15.5 cm, 17 cm, 18 cm, 19.5 cm, 21 cm).
- Change Color: Cut MC. With CC, knit to end.
- First Cable Cast On: Cable cast on 28 (32, 34, 38, 40, 44) stitches.
- Second Cable Cast On: Turn, knit to end. Cable cast on 28 (32, 34, 38, 40, 44) stitches.
- Knit Even: Knit even for 6.5 cm (7.5 cm, 8 cm, 8.5 cm, 9 cm, 10 cm).
- Change Color Again: Cut CC. With MC, knit 2 rows (for all sizes).
- First Shoulder: Knit 39 (44, 47, 53, 55, 61) stitches.
- Bind Off Center: BO 22 (26, 28, 30, 32, 34) stitches.
- Second Shoulder: Knit remaining 38 (43, 46, 52, 56, 60) stitches.
- Place on Holders: Put shoulder stitches on holders.
Back Panel Instructions
- Cast On: With MC, cast on 44 (50, 54, 60, 64, 68) stitches.
- Knit Body: Knit in garter stitch for with MC 13.5 cm (15.5 cm, 17 cm, 18 cm, 19.5 cm, 21 cm).
- Change Color: Cut MC. With CC, knit to end.
- First Cable Cast On: Cable cast on 28 (32, 34, 38, 40, 44) stitches.
- Second Cable Cast On: Turn, knit to end. Cable cast on 28 (32, 34, 38, 40, 44) stitches.
- Knit Even: Knit even for 4.5 cm (5.5 cm, 6 cm, 6.5 cm, 7 cm, 8 cm).
- First Side of Back Opening: Knit the stated number of stitches, then turn: 53 (60, 64, 71, 75, 81) stitches.
- Knit Rows: Knit 5 rows (for all sizes).
- Buttonhole:
- Knit until last 3 stitches.
- Yo, k2tog, k1 (for all sizes).
- Knit Row: Knit 1 row (for all sizes).
- Change Color: Cut CC. With MC, knit 2 rows (for all sizes).
- Bind Off First Shoulder: Knit 39 (44, 47, 53, 56, 61) stitches. BO remaining stitches and put stitches on hold.
- Rejoin Yarn: Rejoin CC for other side at opening and cable cast on 6 (6, 6, 6, 6, 6) stitches.
- Knit Rows: Knit 8 rows (for all sizes).
- Change Color: Cut CC. With MC, knit 2 rows (for all sizes).
- Bind Off Second Shoulder: BO until the following number of stitches remain on left needle and knit to end: 38 (43, 46, 52, 55, 60) stitches.
Finishing
- Shoulder Seams: With MC and right sides facing you, 3 needle BO shoulders.
- Side Seams: Seam sides and underarms.
- Weave Ends: Weave in ends.
