Instructions for Making the Candy Stripes Scarf Pattern

Initial Setup

To begin your Candy Stripes Scarf, you will use your Main Color (MC) yarn.

  • First, ch 55.
  • Carefully sl st to join the chain, forming a large loop. Be careful not to twist the sts as you join, as this will affect the alignment of your scarf.
  • You will now work in rnd.

Main Color Base Round

After establishing your initial loop, you will work the first full round.

  • Rnd 1: Ch3 (this typically counts as your first DC st). Then, DC to the end of the rnd. Finish the round by making a sl st to join into the top of your ch3. This completes your foundational round in MC.

Color Stripe 1 (C1) Section (Rnds 2-43)

This section introduces your first contrasting color, C1, and establishes the alternating stripe pattern.

  • Rnd 2: Switch to Color 1 (C1) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the round. Conclude the round with a sl st to join. This round will create a stripe in C1.
  • Rnd 3: Change back to your Main Color (MC) yarn. Ch3, then dc to the end of the round. Finish with a sl st to join. This round creates a stripe in MC.
  • Rnds 4 to 43: For this extensive portion of the scarf, you will rep Rnds 2-3. This means you will alternate between C1 and MC for the next 40 rounds. Specifically, Rnd 4 will be worked with C1, Rnd 5 with MC, Rnd 6 with C1, Rnd 7 with MC, and so on. Continue this alternating sequence of C1 and MC for one round each, until you have completed Rnd 43. This repetition will result in 20 stripes of C1 and 20 stripes of MC, each worked for one round.

Color Stripe 2 (C2) Section (Rnds 44-87)

Following the C1 stripe, you will introduce your second contrasting color, C2.

  • Rnd 44: Switch to Color 2 (C2) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Conclude the round with a sl st to join.
  • Rnd 45: Change back to your Main Color (MC) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Finish with a sl st to join.
  • Rnds 46 to 87: You will now rep Rnds 44-45 for the next 42 rounds. This means Rnd 46 will be worked with C2, Rnd 47 with MC, Rnd 48 with C2, and so forth, continuing this alternating pattern of C2 and MC until Rnd 87 is completed. This section forms 21 stripes of C2 and 21 stripes of MC.

Color Stripe 3 (C3) Section (Rnds 88-131)

Next, you will introduce your third contrasting color, C3, continuing the striped pattern.

  • Rnd 88: Switch to Color 3 (C3) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Conclude the round with a sl st to join.
  • Rnd 89: Change back to your Main Color (MC) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Finish with a sl st to join.
  • Rnds 90 to 131: Continue the pattern by rep Rnds 88-89. This means for the next 42 rounds, you will alternate between C3 and MC. Rnd 90 will be C3, Rnd 91 will be MC, and this alternating sequence will continue until Rnd 131 is finished. This section also creates 21 stripes of C3 and 21 stripes of MC.

Color Stripe 4 (C4) Section (Rnds 132-176)

The final colored stripe section uses C4, completing the main body of the scarf.

  • Rnd 132: Switch to Color 4 (C4) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Conclude the round with a sl st to join.
  • Rnd 133: Change back to your Main Color (MC) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Finish with a sl st to join.
  • Rnds 134 to 175: For the next 42 rounds, you will rep Rnds 132-133. This indicates that Rnd 134 will be worked with C4, Rnd 135 with MC, and this alternating pattern of C4 and MC will continue until Rnd 175 is completed. This part of the pattern forms 21 stripes of C4 and 21 stripes of MC.
  • Rnd 176: For the final round of the striped body, use Color 4 (C4) yarn. Ch3, then DC to the end of the rnd. Conclude the round with a sl st to join.

Finishing

Once all rounds are completed, the final steps will transform your crocheted tube into a finished infinity scarf.

  • Using either a whip stitch or mattress stitch, carefully seam the ends of the scarf together. This will create the continuous loop characteristic of an infinity scarf.
  • Weave in any remaining ends.
  • Finally, wash and block your scarf. Blocking helps to set the stitches, even out the fabric, and achieve the final dimensions of 5.5” wide x 59” circumference.
