Instructions for Making the The Rocky Shore Hat Pattern:

General Notes for the Pattern

Before beginning, please note the following instructions to ensure successful construction of your hat:

  • The Ch at the beginning of each round does NOT count as a St. Always crochet into the first St (joining St) of the round.
  • Always join to the first St of the round, NOT the Ch.
  • Count St(s) after each round to make sure the hat doesn’t expand.
  • Work Slst loosely, ensuring you have nice, even rows and St(s).

Band Instructions

The band is worked first, forming the base of the hat.

  • Ch 6, 8, 10 (for Toddler, Child, Adult sizes respectively).
  • Row 1: Sc in second Ch from hook and in each Ch throughout. Turn. You should have (5, 7, 9 St(s)).
  • Row 2: Ch1, Sc in first St, Sc in Blo of next (3, 5, 7) St(s), Sc in last St. Turn.
  • Repeat Row 2 until you have a total of (84, 96, 108 rows) for Toddler, Child, Adult sizes respectively.
  • Joining the Band: Fold the band in half so that the last worked row meets the beginning Ch. Join by Slst through each St of the beginning Ch and Blo of the last row.

Body of the Hat

After joining the band, you will switch to a larger hook and begin the body of the hat, working into the sides of the band rows.
