- Hook:
- 4mm crochet hook
- 6.5mm Tunisian crochet hook with 16″ cord
- Notions:
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Pom Pom maker or faux fur pom pom

- SPECIAL STITCHES:
- Extra Long Tunisian Front Post Double Crochet (XLTfpdc): yarn over, insert hook under the front and back vertical bars of the stitch 3 rows below, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 1 loop on hook, yarn over, pull through 2 loops on hook.
- Last Tunisian Stitch (Lts): insert hook under BOTH vertical bars of the last stitch and complete as for Tunisian simple stitch.
- Return Pass (RetP): chain 1, (yarn over, pull through the next 2 loops on hook) until 1 loop remains on hook.

Mesa Hat Instructions
Brim
- With Yarn A and 4 mm hook, Ch 7.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Turn (6 sts).
- Rows 2-67: Ch 1, Sc BLO across. Turn each row.
- Rotate work to crochet along row ends, switch to 6.5 mm Tunisian hook.
Body
- Row 1: Pull up loops from end of each brim row, RetP, change to Yarn B (67 sts).
- Rows 2-3: Tss across, Lts last stitch, RetP. Change to Yarn A after Row 3.
- Row 4: Tss in first 2 sts, (XLTfpdc 1, Tss 3) across; Lts; RetP; change to Yarn B.
- Rows 5-19: Repeat Rows 2-4 sequence.
- Row 20: Repeat Row 2.
- Row 21: Tss2tog once, (Tss 2, Tss2tog) 15 times, Tss 1, Tss2tog, Lts; RetP; change to Yarn A (50 sts remain).
- Row 22: Tss 1, (XLTfpdc 1, Tss 2) across; Lts; RetP; change to Yarn B, fasten off Yarn A.
- Row 23: Sk 1, (Tss 1, Tss2tog) across, Tss 1, Sk 1, Lts; RetP (33 sts remain).
- Row 24: Tss2tog 15 times, Tss 1, Lts; RetP (18 sts remain).
Finishing
- Slip stitch bind off loosely with Yarn B.
- Thread long tail through Lts at top, pull to close.
- Seam side using mattress stitch; seam brim with 6″ tail left at start.
- Weave in all ends.
- Attach pom pom securely.
Mesa Scarf Instructions
Foundation
- With Yarn A, Ch 28 (or multiple of 4 + 4 for width).
- Pull up loops across, RetP (28 sts).
Body Pattern
- Rows 1-3: Tss across, Lts last stitch, RetP. Alternate Yarn A and Yarn B for striping.
- Row 4: Tss in first 2 sts, (XLTfpdc 1, Tss 3) across; Lts; RetP; change color.
- Rows 5-8: Repeat Rows 1-4.
- Continue striping and textured sequence until scarf reaches desired length (~65″).
Finishing
- Bind off loosely with slip stitch method.
- Weave in all ends.
- Optionally add small tassels or pom poms at scarf ends to match the hat.
