Instructions for Making the XOXO Bookmark Pattern:

R1 (Foundation Row)

Work FSC in a multiple of 3+2 until the desired width is reached. Make note of the total stitch count for this row, as every single crochet row that follows will have the same stitch count.

  • Alternative: If choosing to use a foundation chain, ch a multiple of 3+2+1 and then sc into the back bump of the 2nd ch from the hook.

R2 (kiss)

  • Ch 3 (This counts as a dc).
  • sk 1st stitch.
  • work a kiss stitch across the next 3 stitches, repeat from * until one stitch remains from the previous row.
  • dc into the last stitch.
  • Note on Kiss Stitch: To execute the kiss stitch, sk 2, dc next, ch 1, then cross over the dc you just made, and dc into the first skipped stitch, leaving the second skipped stitch unworked.
  • Pro Tip: It is recommended to make the third chain in the beginning ch-3 slightly looser than the others, as the following row (R3) requires working into it.
  • Make note of the total number of kiss stitches for this row, as all subsequent kiss stitch rows will have the same count.

R3 (sc)

(Stitch count should match R1).

  • Ch 1 (This doesn’t count as a stitch).
  • sc in 1st stitch.
  • sc next, sc into ch sp, sc next, repeat from * for each kiss stitch from the previous row.
  • sc into the top of the ch-3 of the previous row.

R4 – Length

Continue alternating repeating R2 and R3 until the desired length of the bookmark is achieved. The stitch counts will remain the same as noted previously.

Ensure the pattern finishes with a solid row of single crochet by ending on a repeat of R3 so that the top matches the bottom.

Tie off and weave in ends.
