
Pattern Description:
The Crochet Bunny Egg is an adorable amigurumi design, perfect for holiday crafting, especially Easter. This pattern allows for the creation of charming bunny-shaped eggs with optional facial features and two ear styles (short or long), offering a fun and customizable project for advanced beginners.
Materials Needed & Measurements:
- Yarn: Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft (worsted 4-Medium, 100% acrylic).
- Color (A): Bone, Chocolate, or Off White, used approx. 33-38 yds/30-35 m. Grey Heather (Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft Heathers) is also an option for Color (A).
- Color (B): Soft Pink, used approx. 6 yds/5.5 m.
- Substitutions: Any brand of worsted-weight acrylic yarn should work, though finished size may vary. Cotton yarn is also a suitable alternative.
- Yarn Weight: Worsted weight, size 4 (Medium).
- Hook: Size E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook.

Body:
The body of the bunny is made from the top down, using Color (A).

- Rnd 3: [Sc in the next st, 2sc in next st] 6 times. (18sts)
- Rnd 4: Sc in the next st, 2sc in the next st, [sc in the next 2sts, 2sc in the next st] 5 times, sc in the next st. (24sts)
- Rnds 5-6: Sc in each st around. (24sts for 2 Rnds)
- Rnd 7: [Sc in the next 7sts, 2sc in the next st] 3 times. (27sts)
- Rnd 8: Sc in the next 4sts, 2sc in the next st, [sc in the next 8sts, 2sc in the next st] 2 times, sc in the next 4sts. (30sts)

- Insert the safety eyes: Suggested placement is between Rnds 8 and 9, approximately 5sts apart. It’s recommended to wait to add the backs to the eyes until embroidery is completed to allow for adjustments.
- Add desired embroidery: Using embroidery floss and an embroidery needle, add features like the nose, mouth, whiskers, eyelashes, or freckles. Use 6 strands of DMC floss for thicker features (like the nose or French knot freckles) and 3 strands for thinner features (like outlining the nose, whiskers, or eyelashes).
- Secure safety eyes: Remember to put the backs on the eyes once embroidery is completed.
- Rnds 14-16: Sc in each st around. (30sts for 3 Rnds)

- There are shorter and longer inner ear options to coordinate with the ear styles. Alternatively, you can add color to the ears using blush, crayon, or paint. Use a regular sc decrease when working in rows, and ch 1 and turn at the end of each row.
- Short Inner Ear (Make 2, using Color B)
- Ch 2
- Row 1: In the back bar of the ch: 2sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. (2sts)
- Row 2: 2sc in the next st, sc in the next st. (3sts)
- Rows 3-5: Sc in each st across. (3sts for 3 Rows)
- Row 6: Sc2tog, sc in the next st. (2sts)

- Finish: Fasten off, leaving a long tail to attach the inner ear to the inside of the ear. Weave in the starting tail.
- Long Inner Ear (Make 2, using Color B)

Tail:
- Using Color (A) and the 1 ⅝ inch (45 mm) Clover Pom Pom Maker, create a pom-pom.
- Optional: You can omit the tail or use a regular craft pom-pom and attach it with a sewing needle and thread.
Assembly:
Pin all the pieces together to determine the desired placement for the entire Crochet Bunny Egg and stitch securely into place.
- Coloring: If desired, color the cheeks and/or ears of the bunny using a crayon, acrylic paint, or blush.
- Inner Ears: If using, stitch the inner ears to the inside center of the main ear.
- Ears: Attach the short ears vertically with the inner portions of the ear at approximately Rnd 2 of the body. Attach the longer ears horizontally at approximately Rnd 3 of the body.
- Tail: Attach the tail at the back of the body, roughly between Rnd 14 and 15.
Caution! If using safety eyes, consider who will be using the item. Safety eyes are not recommended for children under the age of three or for those prone to putting things in their mouths, as they may pose a choking hazard. Crocheted or hand-embroidered eyes are excellent alternatives!
