Crochet Daisy Granny Square

Step-by-Step Pattern Instructions

Round 1: The Yellow Flower Center

Using Color A (Yellow).

1. Create a Magic Circle (adjustable loop) around your fingers and insert your hook to pull up a loop.

2. Chain 2. Note: This initial chain does not count as a stitch; it simply brings you up to the correct height.

3. Work 12 Double Crochets directly into the center of the Magic Circle.

4. Pull the yarn tail firmly to close the center hole tight.

5. To finish the round, work a Slip Stitch into the top of the very first double crochet you made (not into the chain-2 space).

Round 2: The White Flower Petals

Using Color B (White). In this round, you will create 12 distinct petals using 3-Treble Crochet Clusters separated by chains.

How to make the first unique cluster:

1. Insert your hook into any stitch from Round 1 and join your white yarn with a slip stitch.

2. Chain 3. This serves as the partial first leg of your first petal.

3. Yarn over twice, insert your hook into that exact same starting stitch, and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops twice (3 loops left on hook).

4. Yarn over twice again, insert into the same stitch, and pull up a loop (6 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops twice (4 loops left on hook).

5. Yarn over twice one last time, insert into the same stitch, and pull up a loop (7 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through 2 loops twice. You should now have 3 loops remaining on your hook.

6. Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops to secure the petal.

Completing the rest of the flower:

7. Chain 3.

8. Move to the next available stitch from Round 1. You will create a standard 3-Treble Crochet Cluster here:

   • Yarn over twice, insert hook into the stitch, pull up a loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops twice. Repeat this process 2 more times in the exact same stitch until you have 4 loops remaining on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

9. Chain 3.

10. Repeat this process (a 3-Tr cluster followed by a chain-3) into every single remaining stitch around.

11. To close the round, complete your final chain-3, then work a Slip Stitch into the first chain that sits right at the top of your very first petal.

12. Fasten off your white yarn and weave in the ends. You will now have a 12-petaled daisy flower surrounded by 12 chain spaces.

Round 3: Squaring off the Flower

Using Color C (Background Color). This round transforms your round flower into a traditional square by placing taller stitches (trebles) at the corners and shorter stitches (double crochets) along the flat sides.

1. Attach your background yarn into any chain-3 space from Round 2 using a slip stitch.

2. Chain 4. This counts as your first double crochet plus a chain-1 space.

3. Skip the next white petal. In the very next chain-3 space, work 3 Double Crochets.

4. Chain 1, skip the next petal, and now we build our first corner: In the next chain-3 space, work 3 Treble Crochets, Chain 2, and 3 Treble Crochets all into that same space. This creates a sharp 90-degree corner.

5. Chain 1, skip the next petal, and work 3 Double Crochets in the next chain space.

6. Chain 1, skip the next petal, and work another 3 Double Crochets in the following chain space.
