Amigurumi Bumblebee

Materials Needed & Measurement:

  • Yarn: Chunky yarn in yellow, black, and white
  • Safety Eyes: 10mm (adjustable)
  • Stuffing: Polyester fiberfill or choice of stuffing
  • Crochet Hook: 4.5mm (adjustable for yarn size)
  • Needle: For sewing and weaving in ends

Abbreviations:

  • MR = Magic Ring
  • Inc = Increase (2 stitches in 1)
  • Inv Dec = Invisible Decrease
  • Sc = Single Crochet
  • Hdc = Half Double Crochet
  • Dc = Double Crochet
  • Ss = Slip Stitch

Special Stitches:

  • Invisible Decrease (Inv Dec): Insert hook into the front loops of 2 stitches, yarn over, pull through both, then yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Stitching the Amigurumi Bumblebee Pattern:

Head & Body(Using Yellow Yarn):

  • Start with the head:
    • Round 1: Make an MR, and work 6 sc into the ring. (6)
    • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
    • Round 3: [1 sc, Inc] repeat around. (18)
    • Round 4: [2 sc, Inc] repeat around. (24)
    • Round 5-7: sc in each stitch around. (24)
    • Round 8: [2 sc, Inv Dec] repeat around. (18)
    • Round 9: [1 sc, Inv Dec] repeat around. (12)
    • Round 10: Inv Dec around. (6)
  • Stuff the head with polyester fiberfill.
  • Switch to Black Yarn for the body:
    • Round 11: Attach the black yarn, sc in each stitch around. (6)
    • Round 12: [1 sc, Inc] repeat around. (9)
    • Round 13: [2 sc, Inc] repeat around. (12)
    • Round 14-17: sc in each stitch around. (12)

  • Stuff the body with fiberfill as you go.
  • Switch to Yellow Yarn:

    • Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  • Stuff the body and sew the body and head together. Weave in the ends.

Wings (Make 2):

  • White Yarn
    • Round 1: Start with MR, make 6 sc into the ring. (6)
    • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
    • Round 3: [1 sc, Inc] repeat around. (18)
    • Round 4: [2 sc, Inc] repeat around. (24)
    • Round 5: sc in each stitch around. (24)
    • Round 6: [2 sc, Inv Dec] repeat around. (18)
    • Round 7: [1 sc, Inv Dec] repeat around. (12)
    • Round 8: Inv Dec around. (6)
    • Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing the wings to the body. Weave in the ends.

Stripes (Make 2):

  • Black Yarn
    • Round 1: With black yarn, make a chain of 6 stitches.
    • Round 2: ss back along the chain, starting from the second chain from the hook. (5)
    • Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Antennae (Make 2):

Black Yarn

  • Round 1: Ch 5, then ss back along the chain to create a simple antenna. (4)
  • Finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  • Attach the wings to the back of the body using the long tail of the white yarn. Position them symmetrically.
  • Attach the stripes to the body using the black yarn tails. Place them where desired for a fun, bumblebee-like effect.
  • Sew the antennae to the top of the head.
  • Sew on the safety eyes securely in front of the body, between the first few yellow rounds.

Final Touches:

  • Weave in any remaining ends and trim excess yarn.
  • Adjust the stuffing as needed to ensure the bee is firm but still squeezable.
