Instructions Breakdown
Rnd 1:
Start with a magic circle. Chain 3, which counts as 1 double crochet (dc). Work 11 more dc into the magic circle.
Once complete, pull the tail of the magic circle to tighten it, then slip stitch to the top of the initial chain to close the round. Total: 12 dc.
Rnd 2:
Join color B (Lilac). In the same stitch where you joined, work 1 dc. Then, place 2 dc in each stitch around the circle. Slip stitch to join at the top of the first dc to complete the round. Total: 24 dc.
Rnd 3:
Switch to color C (Living Coral). For this round, work (1 dc in the next stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch) around. This will increase the stitch count as you go. Connect with a slip stitch at the end of the round. Total: 36 dc.
Rnd 4:
Change back to color A (Hosta). In this round, work (1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in the next stitch) around.
Be sure to maintain your tension as you work to keep the mandala flat. Slip stitch to join at the end. Total: 48 dc.
Rnd 5:
Join color B again. Work a single crochet (sc) in any stitch. Skip the next stitch, then work 5 dc in the following stitch.
This creates a scallop. Repeat this pattern around the entire round, ensuring you merge each scallop correctly by connecting with a slip stitch at the end. Total: 12 scallops.
Rnd 6:
Integrate color C. Begin by working 2 sc in the next 2 stitches. Then, work (3 sc in the next stitch, sc in the next 5 stitches) around, which will create a more intricate design. At the end of the round, slip stitch to tie off. Total: 96 sc.
Rnd 7:
Attach color A. Work 1 sc in the center sc of any 3-sc group from the previous round. Skip the next 3 stitches, and in the following sc, work (1 treble crochet (tr), 3 dc, 1 tr).
Repeat this pattern around the mandala, ensuring each cluster is consistent. Connect with a slip stitch at the end. Total: 72 sts.
Rnd 8:
Switch to color B. Start with (chain 1, skip 1 stitch, hdc in the next stitch) two times. Then, work (chain 1, skip 1 stitch, sc in the next stitch) four times.
Next, work (chain 1, skip 1 stitch, hdc in the next stitch) two times again, and finish this round with (dc, chain 2, dc) in the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around and do not fasten off to keep working in the round.
Rnd 9:
Begin with either a chain 4 or a standing treble crochet (tr). Work (2 tr, chain 2, 2 tr) in the next chain-2 space.
This will create a nice fan shape. Repeat this process around the circle and connect with a slip stitch to finish the round.
Rnd 10:
For this final round, start with a chain 3 or a standing dc. Work 1 dc in each stitch around, and in each corner chain-2 space, place (2 dc, chain 2, 2 dc). This adds dimension to your mandala. Join with a slip stitch at the end of the round.
