Round-by-Round Guide for Mary’s Memory Crochet Mandala Pattern

Round 1

Round 1

Start with Colour A. Create a magic ring (MR) and work eight single crochets (sc) into it. This forms the foundation of your mandala. Connect with a slip stitch to the first sc to close the round tightly, ensuring there are no gaps.

Round 2

Round 2

Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet). Work 2 dc in each stitch around, effectively doubling the number of stitches and increasing the size of your mandala.

Connect with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain. Fasten off and change to Colour B for a new vibrant layer.

Round 3

Round 3

Chain 4 (counts as a double crochet plus chain one). Work (1 dc, ch 1) in the same stitch to create an open look.

Then, (1 dc, ch 1) in the next stitch across the round, which adds texture and dimension. Connect with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain. Fasten off and switch to Colour C, continuing the beautiful color journey.

Round 4

Round 4

Chain 2 (counts as a half double crochet). Work 2 hdc in each chain space from the previous round, creating a nice fullness to the mandala.

This round enhances the structure and prepares for the next colorful layer. Connect with a slip stitch and change to Colour D for added warmth and depth.

Round 5

Round 5

Chain 3 (counts as a double crochet) and work 2 dc in the same stitch. Chain 2, skip the next stitch, 3 dc in the next stitch; repeat this pattern around. This creates a lacy effect and introduces spaces for future rounds.

Connect with a slip stitch to the top of the initial chain. Fasten off and switch to Colour E, bringing a refreshing contrast to the design.

Round 6

Round 6

In the first chain space, work (ch 2, dc, ch 2, 2 dc). In each subsequent chain space, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) until the end.

This round establishes a beautiful scalloped edge that enhances the mandala’s intricate appearance.

Connect with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain. Fasten off and connect Colour F, a soft and neutral color to balance the vibrancy.

Round 7

Round 7

Chain 1 and work one sc in each dc and one sc in each chain space around. This finalizes the texture and fills any gaps, ensuring a cohesive look.

Slip stitch to the beginning chain to close the round securely. Fasten off, ready for the finishing touches.

Round 8

Round 8

Chain 1, then work 2 sc in the same stitch, then (sc in the next 5 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch) until you reach the end.

This creates a beautiful ruffled effect, giving the mandala a lively, three-dimensional quality. Connect with a slip stitch to the beginning stitch. Fasten off to prepare for the final round.

Round 9

Round 9

Chain 1, sc in the same stitch, skip 3 stitches, then work (5 dc, ch 1, 5 dc) in the next stitch. This creates a shell stitch that adds elegance and charm to your mandala, enhancing its visual appeal.

Repeat from around until the mandala is complete. Fasten off and weave in any loose ends to tidy up your work.
