
Pattern Description:
Cocca la gallina is a tiny, simple hen. It is primarily a pear shaped body with a few specific peculiar details to add. The pattern is rated for advanced beginners.
Materials Need & Measurements:
- Yarn: White yarn, Red yarn, Yellow yarn, some left-over Pink yarn.
- Hook: Crochet hook size 3 mm.
- Notions: Fiberfill for stuffing, two 6mm black safety eyes, tapestry needle.

Instructions for Making the Cocca the Hen Pattern:
The pattern is broken down into several parts: Body, Tail (Big piece and Small piece), Cockscomb, and Wings.
Body:
- Use white yarn.
- R1: Start 7 sc in a MR .
- R2: inc in all 7 st .
- R3: (sc, inc) repeat 7 times .
- R4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 7 times .
- R5: (3 sc, inc) repeat 7 times .
- R6: sc around .
- R7: (4 sc, inc) repeat 7 times .
- R8-13: sc around .
- R14: (4 sc, dec) repeat 7 times .
- R15: (3 sc, dec) repeat 7 times .
- R16: (5 sc, dec) repeat 4 times .
- R17-22: sc around .
- R23: (2 sc, dec) repeat 6 times .
- R24: sc around .
- Insert safety eyes between round 22 and 23 leaving a gap of 4 st.
- R25: (sc, dec) repeat 6 times .
- R26: sc around .
- R27: dec 6 times .
- Stuff the body with some fiberfill.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
- Using a yarn needle, weave the yarn tail through the front loop of each remaining st and pull tight to close.
Tail:
- Use white yarn.
- Big piece:
- R1: start 6 sc in a MR .
- R2: inc in all 6 st .
- R3-5: sc around .
- R6: (2 sc, dec) repeat 3 times .
- R7-8: sc around .
- R9: (sc, dec) repeat 3 times .
- R10-11: sc around .
- slst to finish off leaving a long tail. Don’t stuff.
- Small piece:
- R1: start 6 sc in a MR .
- R2: inc in all 6 st .
- R3-4: sc around .
- R5: (2 sc, dec) repeat 3 times .
- R6: sc around .
- R7: (sc, dec) repeat 3 times .
- R8: sc around .
- slst to finish off leaving a long tail. Don’t stuff.
- Sew the tail to the body, placing the small piece between round 8 and 9 and the big one between round 5 and 6.
Cockscomb:
- Use red yarn.
- R1: ch 11.
- R2: make 5 tr in the 4th chain from the hook, skip 2 st, slst in the next st, skip 1 st, 5 dc in the next st, skip 1 st, slst in the last st.
- Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Place the cockscomb starting from the back of Cocca’s head (round 23).
Wings (make 2):
- Use white yarn.
- R1: start 6 sc in a MR .
- R2: inc in all 6 st .
- R3: (sc, inc) repeat 6 times .
- R4: (2 sc, inc) repeat 6 times .
- slst to finish off leaving a long tail.
- Sew only half of the wings to the body.
Embroider details:
- Embroider the details at round 21.
- Use yellow yarn for the beak.
- Use pink yarn for the cheeks. (like shown in the picture).
Finishing & Assembly:
- Attach Wings: Sew the two wings to the sides of Cocca’s body, starting around round 10, placing them symmetrically. Attach only half of each wing to allow a lifted look.
- Attach Tail: Sew the small tail piece between round 8 and 9, and the big tail piece between round 5 and 6 on Cocca’s back.
- Attach Cockscomb: Position the red cockscomb from the back of the head, starting around round 23, and sew it securely in place.
- Embroider Beak and Cheeks:
- Use yellow yarn to embroider a small triangle for the beak centered between the eyes at round 21.
- Use pink yarn to add tiny cheek circles just below the eyes for a sweet touch.
Final Touches:
- Gently adjust the stuffing if needed to smooth out any bumps.
- Shape the body with your hands to enhance Cocca’s pear-like form.
