Instructions for Making the Paddington Style Bear with Coat & Hat Pattern:

Cut Out the Pattern Pieces

  • Bear: Use the Firefighter Bear pattern (pants omitted). Cut body, head, arms, legs, and ear pieces as indicated.
  • Hat: Use the Ever After High “Saucy Hat” pattern (shared on ChellyWood’s site). Cut a circular crown and a brim.
  • Coat: Use the Firefighter Bear’s jacket pattern. Cut the coat body, sleeves, and collar from wool felt or similar fabric.

Sew the Bear’s Body

  • Place body front and back pieces together, right sides facing.
  • Stitch along the edges, leaving an opening at the crotch seam.
  • Clip the curved seams carefully to allow smoother turning.
  • Turn the body right side out.

Assemble the Head and Face

  • Sew the head pieces along the center seam.
  • Lightly stuff the muzzle to shape the face.
  • Prepare and attach ears by sewing two pieces together, turning them out, and securing them at the top of the head.
  • Embroider or stitch the nose and mouth. Attach safety eyes or embroider eyes if preferred.

Make Arms and Legs

  • Sew each arm and leg pair together, leaving the tops open.
  • Attach rounded soles to the feet before turning.
  • Turn right side out and stuff firmly, but don’t overfill.
  • Insert the arms and legs into the body openings and stitch securely in place.

Join the Head to the Body

  • Position the stuffed head at the top of the body.
  • Attach with ladder stitch or a small machine stitch.
  • Fill the body cavity with stuffing before fully closing.
  • Close the back seam with invisible stitches.

Sew the Paddington-Style Hat

  • Join the crown and brim pieces of the hat pattern.
  • Stitch the brim to the crown, making sure seams are even.
  • Use red felt for a structured look, or red cotton for a softer style.
  • Place the hat snugly on the bear’s head.

Construct the Coat

  • Stitch coat body and sleeves according to the pattern.
  • Add the collar and hem the edges neatly.
  • Sew toggles or small buttons down the front for Paddington’s classic duffle look.
  • Slide the coat onto your bear once finished.

Add Finishing Touches

  • Tie a ribbon or attach a small felt tag to complete the Paddington aesthetic.
  • Smooth the seams and adjust stuffing as needed.
  • Position the hat slightly tilted for charm.
