Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Baby Boy Sandals Pattern:

Sole (All Sizes)

  • Foundation Chain:
  • Create a foundation chain as per the size you’re making:
    • 0-3 months: ch 11
    • 3-6 months: ch 13
    • 6-9 months: ch 15
    • 9-12 months: ch 17
  • Round 1:
    • Work into the 2nd chain from the hook: sc in the first st, hdc in the next, dc into each chain across until the last ch.
    • In the last chain: Work 6 dc (this forms the rounded toe of the sole).
    • Continue working on the other side of the chain: dc into each chain until the end, hdc in the next, sc in the last chain.
    • Attatch the round with a sl st into the first sc.
  • Round 2:
    • Ch 1, work 2 sc in the first st (inc), 1 sc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st.
    • Work 2 dc in each of the next 2 sts, dc in each st along the side until the curve at the toe.
    • In the curve (the 6 dc from Round 1): Work 2 dc in the first st, dc in the next, repeat this sequence three times.
    • Continue working on the opposite side of the sole: dc in each st along the side, hdc in the next st, 2 sc in the last st.
    • Add with a sl st to the first sc.
  • Round 3:
    • Ch 1, sc in the first 2 sts, 2 hdc in the next st, hdc in the following st.
    • Work 2 dc in the next st, dc in the next, repeat this across the side of the sole.
    • In the curve at the toe, increase evenly: (2 dc, dc) around the curve.
    • Continue along the opposite side with dc in each st, hdc in the next, and sc in the last 2 sts.
    • Mrge with a sl st to the first sc.
    • Note: Adjust stitch counts for size. The sole should be flat, with smooth curves at the toe and heel.

Toe Strap

  • Foundation Row:
    • Attach your bright-colored yarn to the center front of the sole (count stitches evenly from both sides for alignment).
    • Ch 1, and work sc across 6-10 sts (depending on size).
    • Ch 1, turn.
    • Rows 2-4 (or desired height):
    • Work sc in each st across, ch 1, turn.
    • Repeat until the strap reaches the desired height (typically 4 rows).
    • Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Heel Strap

  • Attach the yarn to one side of the sole’s back (count evenly for symmetry).
  • Ch 1, work sc across 8-12 sts (depending on size), ch 1, turn.
  • Repeat sc rows for 3-5 rows or until the strap reaches the desired height.
  • Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Side Straps

  • Right Side Strap:
    • Attach the yarn near the middle of the sole’s side (aligned with the toe strap).
    • Ch 1, work sc across 4-6 sts, ch 1, turn.
    • Repeat for 2-4 rows or until the strap is long enough to reach the opposite side of the toe strap.
    • Fasten off and weave in ends.
  • Left Side Strap: Repeat the same process as the right strap on the opposite side of the sole.

Assembly

  • Use a yarn needle to sew the toe strap securely to the side straps on both sides.
  • Sew the heel strap to the back ends of the side straps.
  • Ensure all seams are snug and secure for durability.

Optional Finishing Touches

  • Button Closure: Add a button to one side strap and a small loop on the other for easy fastening.
  • Edging: Add a row of slip stitches around the straps for a polished look.
  • Decorations: Add small appliqués, bows, or embroidered details for extra charm.
