Stitching Instructions for Making Cuddle Up Dinosaur Blanket Pattern:
Body Blanket Piece (Color A)
- Size ¾ (28″ x 36″):
- Row 1 – 35: Start with 1 block (Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across). For each subsequent row, increase on both ends:
- Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook, then work dc, ch-3, dc in the last st to form the block.
- Work a Ch 6, dc for each new block, increasing until you have 35 blocks across by the end of Row 35.
- Rows 36 – 45: Decrease on one side and increase on the other side, maintaining 35 blocks across each row.
- Rows 46 – 79: Work decreases on each side of each row. This will reduce the number of blocks until only 1 block remains.
- Break yarn and set aside.
- Row 1 – 35: Start with 1 block (Ch 6, dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across). For each subsequent row, increase on both ends:
- Size ⅚ (33″ x 42″):
- Row 1 – 41: Begin as before with 1 block and increase until you have 41 blocks across by the end of Row 41.
- Rows 42 – 53: Keep the number of blocks consistent at 41 by decreasing on one side and increasing on the other.
- Rows 54 – 93: Decrease on both ends of each row, until only 1 block remains.
- Break yarn and set aside.
- Size ⅞ (38″ x 48″):
- Row 1 – 47: Start with 1 block and increase until you have 47 blocks across by the end of Row 47.
- Rows 48 – 61: Maintain 47 blocks across by decreasing on one side and increasing on the other.
- Rows 62 – 107: Decrease on both sides, reducing to 1 block by the end.
- Break yarn and set aside.
Hood Blanket Piece (Color A)
- Size ¾ (8″ x 12″):
- Row 1 – 10: Start with 1 block and increase on both ends until you have 10 blocks across by the end of Row 10.
- Rows 11 – 15: Maintain 10 blocks across by decreasing on one side and increasing on the other.
- Rows 16 – 24: Decrease on both sides of each row until only 1 block remains. Break yarn and leave a long tail. Set aside.
- Size ⅚ (9″ x 14″):
- Row 1 – 11: Start with 1 block and increase to 11 blocks by the end of Row 11.
- Rows 12 – 17: Maintain 11 blocks by decreasing on one side and increasing on the other.
- Rows 18 – 27: Decrease on both ends until only 1 block remains. Break yarn and leave a long tail. Set aside.
- Size ⅞ (10″ x 18″):
- Row 1 – 13: Start with 1 block and increase to 13 blocks by the end of Row 13.
- Rows 14 – 23: Keep 13 blocks across by decreasing on one side and increasing on the other.
- Rows 24 – 35: Decrease on both sides, reducing to 1 block. Break yarn and leave a long tail. Set aside.
Hands (Color B)
- Size ¾:
- Row 1 – 6: Start with 1 block and increase until you have 6 blocks across by the end of Row 6.
- Row 7: Ch 2, dc in first st, hdc in next st, sc in next st. (sc, hdc, dc) in next ch-3 space, skip next 3 sts; repeat from across, ending at **.
- Row 8: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Break yarn and set aside.
- Size ⅚:
- Row 1 – 7: Start with 1 block and increase to 7 blocks by the end of Row 7.
- Row 8: Ch 2, dc in first st, hdc in next st, sc in next st. (sc, hdc, dc) in next ch-3 space, skip next 3 sts; repeat from across, ending at **.
- Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Break yarn and set aside.
- Size ⅞:
- Row 1 – 8: Start with 1 block and increase to 8 blocks by the end of Row 8.
- Row 9: Ch 2, dc in first st, hdc in next st, sc in next st. (sc, hdc, dc) in next ch-3 space, skip next 3 sts; repeat from across, ending at **.
- Row 10: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Break yarn and set aside.
- Spikes (Color B)
- Row 1: Ch 7, skip the ch closest to the hook, then sl st in the next ch. Continue as follows: sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next ch, and dtr in next ch.
- Repeat from * until you have 44 (48, 54) spikes, depending on the size.
- Join Spikes: Fold the row in half, aligning the first and last spikes, ensuring the row isn’t twisted. Working through both layers, ch 1, sc across the spikes. Add an extra sc at the top of each spike.
Assembly
- Whipstitch the Hood Blanket Piece to the Body Blanket Piece, aligning the longer sides and centering the hood on the body piece.
- Pin the hands to the top two corners, using stitch markers to match up the blocks.
- Fold the top of the hood in half and whipstitch to form the hood.
- Sew the base of the spikes (dtr sts) to the blanket, starting at the top of the hood and moving down the back.
Finishing
- Join the bottom edge of the Body Blanket Piece with sc between blocks. Add ch 2 between each pair of blocks.
- Work 3 sc in each corner to secure the Hands to the blanket.
- Join, finish off, and weave in all ends.
