  • Hook: Size H/5mm crochet hook
  • Gauge: 14 stitches x 13 rows = 4 inches

  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single crochet
  • Dc: Double crochet
  • Fphdc: Front post half double crochet
  • Bphdc: Back post half double crochet
  • Sl st: Slip stitch
  • Sk: Skip

Gauge Preparation

  • Follow the gauge pattern to ensure the correct stitch size.
  • Gauge Pattern:
    • Row 1: Ch-18, work (sc, dc) in the 2nd ch from the hook. Sk next ch, (sc, dc) in next ch; repeat between 6 more times. Sk next ch, sc in last ch (total 17 stitches).
    • Rows 2–14: Ch-1, turn. Work (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st; repeat between 7 more times. Sk next st, sc in last st (total 17 stitches).
  • Measure to confirm 14 sts x 13 rows = 4 inches.

Collar

  • Row 1: Fhdc for (33, 43, 53) sts, or ch- (34, 44, 54) and hdc in 2nd ch from the hook across. Join to the first st with a sl st. Stitch count: (33, 43, 53).
  • Row 2: Ch-1, do not turn. Work fphdc around the next st, bphdc around the next st; repeat between around, ending with fphdc on the last st. Join with a sl st to the top of the first fphdc. Stitch count: (33, 43, 53).
  • Row 3: Ch-1, turn. Bphdc around next st, fphdc around next st; repeat around, ending with bphdc in last st. Join with sl st. (33, 43, 53).
  • Row 4: Ch-1, turn. Fphdc around next st, bphdc around next st; repeat around, ending with fphdc in the last st. Join with sl st. (33, 43, 53).
  • Rows 5–(6, 8, 10): Alternate rows 3 and 4 as per size.

Chest/Body

  • Row (7, 9, 11): Ch-1, do not turn. Work (sc, dc) in the first st, sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st; repeat around. In the last st, work (sc, dc, sc). Join with sl st to the first sc. Stitch count: (35, 45, 55).
  • Row (8, 10, 12): Ch-1, turn. (Sc, dc) in the first st, sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st; repeat around, ending with (sc, dc, sc) in the last st. Join with sl st. Stitch count: (37, 47, 57).
  • Rows (9, 11, 13) through (13, 17, 25): Continue repeating the previous row as per size.

Armholes

  • Row (15, 19, 27): Ch-1, turn. Work (sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st) for (2, 4, 6) times. Sk next st, sc in next st, then ch-(7, 11, 15) and skip (9, 13, 17) sts. (Sc, dc) in the next sc. 

Repeat (sc, dc) in each st for (10, 11, 17) more times, sk next st, sc in next st, ch-(7, 11, 15), sk-(9, 13, 17) sts, and resume pattern in the next sc. Join with sl st. Stitch count: (44, 58, 80).

  • Row (16, 20, 28): Ch-1, turn, work (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st around, including the chains. Join with sl st. Stitch count: (44, 58, 80).

Body Length and Tapering

  • Rows (17, 21, 29) through (20, 30, 44): Continue in the pattern, working (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st around for desired length. Join each row with sl st.
  • Tapering:
    • Row (21, 31, 45): Ch-1, turn, sl st in the first (2, 4, 6) sts. Work (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st for (18, 23, 32) more times. 

Sk next st, sc in the next st; leave the last (2, 4, 6) sts unworked. Stitch count: (39, 49, 67).

  • Row (22, 32, 46): Ch-1, turn, sk first 2 sts, (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st); repeat for (17, 22, 31) more times, sc in next st. Stitch count: (37, 47, 65).
  • Row (23, 33, 47): Ch-1, turn, sk first 2 sts, (sc, dc) in next st, sk next st); repeat for (16, 21, 30) more times, sc in next st. Stitch count: (35, 45, 63).
  • Continue tapering until row (36, 46, 66) with (9, 19, 25) sts remaining.

Finishing

  • Row (37, 47, 67): Ch-1, turn, sc in each st and around each row end to give a smooth finish. Join using the Invisible Join technique.
