Foundation Row

Begin by creating the foundation chain:

  • ch 9.

Increasing Section

This section establishes the growing width of your triangle scarf. Referencing photos, if available (as mentioned in the original source, photos were vital for success, especially for new crocheters), can provide additional help.

  • Round 1: Work 1 dc into the sixth ch from the hook. Then, ch 1, skip 1 ch, and work 1 dc into the next ch. Finally, work 1 dc into the last ch; then turn your work.
  • Row 2 (increase row): ch 4 (this counts as 1 dc and 1 ch). Skip the first 2 dc. Work 1 dc into the first ch-sp. Then, ch 1, sk 1 dc, 1 dc into next sp; repeat from to the end of the row. At the end, work addl (1 ch, 2 dc) in the tch; then turn. The tch should contain 1 dc, 1 ch, and 2 dc in total for this row.
  • Row 3: ch 4. Work 1 dc in the first ch-sp. Then, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc into next sp; repeat from to the end of the row. Work 1 addl dc in the tch; then turn.

Continue to repeat rows 2 and 3 until your work has a total of 32 ch-sp and measures approximately 33 inches. Ensure that you end with a row 3.

Decreasing Section

Once the desired width is reached, you will begin to decrease to form the other side of the triangle. Photos in the original source could be helpful for this section as well.

  • Row 1 (decrease row): ch 4. Work 1 dc in the first ch-sp. Then, 1 ch, skip 1 dc, 1 dc into next sp; repeat from until 1 ch-sp and tch remain. After the repeat, ch 1, and then work dc2tog over the next ch-sp and tch; then turn.
  • Row 2: ch 4. Work 1 dc in the first ch-sp. Then, 1 ch, skip 1 dc, 1 dc into next sp; repeat from to the end of the row. Work 1 addl dc in the tch; then turn.

Continue to repeat rows 1 and 2 until only 2 ch-sp remain (this count includes the tch-sp). Make sure to end with a row 2.

Finishing

Upon completing the final decreasing rows:

  • Fasten off your yarn.
  • Weave in all loose ends using your tapestry needle.

Once finished, your “Desert Winds Triangle Scarf” is ready to be worn, whether for a trip to the desert, mountains, or just the grocery store!
