Sides of the Booties (Make 2):

  • For both sizes, the following steps are identical:
    • Ch 10 (Size 1) or 12 (Size 2) to start the side panel.
    • R1: Starting from the second ch from hook, sc in each st across (9 sts for size 1 or 11 sts for size 2).
    • R2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across.
    • R3: Ch 1, turn. Sc in the first 3 sts, hdc in the next 3 sts, dc in the last 3 sts for size 1, or sc in the first 4 sts, hdc in the next 4 sts, dc in the last 4 sts for size 2.
    • R4: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across (same count as R1).
    • FO after completing the side.

Assembly:

  • Attaching the Sole to the Side:
    • Align the side panels with the edges of the soles. Using the long tail of yarn, sew the side panels to the edge of the sole using sl st (slip stitch) to join the edges. For a smooth finish, stitch the side panel to the bottom of the sole, wrapping it around the edges.
    • Be sure the sc sections are sewn securely to avoid gaps.

Forming the Bootie:

  • After attaching the sides, fold the bootie into a 3D shape. Use a tapestry needle and yarn to sew up the back seam of the bootie, joining the two side edges.
  • You can use sl st to join the last row of the bootie to form a closed heel.

Creating the Cuff:

  • R1: At the top edge of the bootie, attach your yarn with a sl st and work sc evenly around the top edge.
  • R2: Ch 1, turn. Work hdc around for a few rounds to create a cuff. If desired, add a dc round for a more decorative effect.
  • R3: Continue working hdc or sc around until you reach the desired cuff height. Finish with sl st and FO.

Adding Buttons:

  • Sew on the buttons: Place the buttons on the outside of the bootie, near the top edge. Position them about 1-1.5” apart.
  • Use a tapestry needle to securely sew the buttons in place.

Finishing:

  • Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle. Make sure to secure them tightly to prevent unraveling.
  • You can gently block the booties to shape them, but this is optional.

Conclusion:

Your Cocoa Baby Ankle Booties are now complete! These cozy booties should fit babies 0–6 months (size 1) or 6-12 months (size 2).

Add any additional embellishments like small flowers or bows if desired. Enjoy your handmade baby booties!
