Pumpkin Crochet Coasters

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn:
    • Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Cotton Yarn:
      • Hot Orange
      • Hot Green
      • Warm Brown
  • Yarn Measurements: Small amounts of each color (1 skein of each should suffice for multiple coasters).
  • Hook Size: 4mm crochet hook (G/6).
  • Finished Pattern Measurements: Approximately 4.5 inches in height and width.
  • Needle: Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and sewing parts together.

Abbreviations (US Terms):

  • ch: Chain
  • mr: Magic Ring
  • sc: Single Crochet
  • inc: Increase (2 stitches in 1 stitch)
  • dc: Double Crochet
  • hdc: Half Double Crochet
  • tr: Triple Crochet
  • sl st: Slip Stitch

Special Stitches:

  • Triple Crochet Increase (tr inc): 3 triple crochets in 1 stitch to shape the pumpkin curves.
  • Deep Slip Stitch (sl st between dc posts): Insert hook between double crochet posts for a defined indentation.

Stitching Instructions for Making Pumpkin Crochet Coasters Pattern:

Crochet Pumpkin Base Pattern

  • Round 1:
    • Using hot orange yarn, make a mr and chain (ch) 2.
    • Work 12 dc into the mr.
    • Close the round with a sl st into the top of the first dc. (12 stitches total)
  • Round 2:
    • Ch 2.
    • Work 1 dc inc into every stitch around (2 dc in each stitch).

  • Round 3:

  • Hdc inc in the first stitch, then dc inc in the next stitch.
  • Work 1 dc in each of the next 5 stitches.
  • Tr, then work tr inc (2 tr in the same stitch).
  • Work tr inc again, but with 3 tr in the same stitch.
  • In the next stitch, work tr + dc together (in the same stitch).
  • Continue with 1 dc, 1 hdc, and a sl st between the next 2 dc posts (deep slip stitch).

Continue shaping:

  • Sl st 6 times, then make another sl st between dc posts.
  • Work 1 hdc, then 1 dc.
  • In the next stitch, work dc + tr together.
  • Work tr inc with 3 stitches, then another tr inc (2 stitches).
  • Work 1 tr, then 5 dc, followed by dc inc, and finish with hdc inc.
  • Make a final sl st, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Crochet Pumpkin Leaf

  • Using hot green yarn, create a mr and work 6 sc into the circle.
  • Do not join the round. Instead, ch 1 and turn.

Shaping the Leaf:

  • In the first stitch, work hdc + dc + tr.
  • In the second stitch, work dc + sl st + hdc + dc.
  • In the third stitch, work tr + ch + tr.
  • In the fourth stitch, work dc + hdc + sl st + dc.

Adding the Vine:

Crochet Pumpkin Stem

  • Using warm brown yarn, ch 4.
  • Turn and begin in the second chain from the hook.

Row 1: Work 1 sc in each of the next 3 chains. Ch 1 and turn. Row 2: Work 1 sc in each stitch across (3). Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly

  • Attach the stem to the top indent of the pumpkin.
  • Sew the leaf and vine near the stem, leaving space for a coffee cup to rest.
  • Ensure all parts are securely sewn, and weave in any loose ends.
