Pattern Description:
The Forest Rug is a tapestry crochet floor piece worked with sturdy cotton cord to create a warm, textured surface.

Instructions for Making the Forest Rug Pattern:
Beginning the Base Rows
- Foundation Chain: With Color A, ch 156. You may choose to introduce Color B in Row 1 and crochet over it to conceal it until Row 8, or simply join it later when needed.
- Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across the row (155 sc). Ch 1, turn.
- Rows 2–7: Work A155 in each row (155 sc with Color A). These rows establish a solid background before the tapestry design begins.
Beginning the Tree Motifs
Starting in Row 8, Color B is added to create the first tree silhouettes. Each row is written using a simple shorthand:
- A = stitches worked with Color A
- B = stitches worked with Color B
- Numbers indicate how many stitches to work in that color.
Maintain even tension, and carry the unused color under your stitches to keep the fabric thick and tidy.
First Tree Section (Rows 8-49)
- Row 8 (WS): A56, B3, A96
- Row 9 (RS): A97, B, A57
- Row 10 (WS): A57, B, A36, B5, A56
- Row 11 (RS): A56, B5, A36, B, A36, B2, A19 (Continue following pattern until Row 48)
- Row 49 (RS): A59, B, A95 After finishing this row, Color B may be cut. The next set of rows are solid Color A and will work smoothly with a single cord.
- Rows 50-66: A155
Second Tree Section (Rows 67-99)
Rejoin Color B if it was cut:
- Row 67 (RS): A94, B2, A59
- Row 68 (WS): A59, B2, A30, B10, A30, B2, A22
- Continue following the tapestry instructions through Row 73, then onward until Row 98.
Row 99 (RS): A59, B, A95 You may again cut Color B at this point.
Rows 100-116: A155
Third Tree Section (Rows 117-152)
Rejoin Color B if needed:
- Row 117 (RS): A22, B, A34, B3, A95
- Row 120 (WS): A18, B2, A37, B3, A35, B2, A35, B5, A18
- Continue pattern to Row 151.
Row 152 (WS): A132, B, A22 Cut Color B afterward.
Finishing Rows
Rows 153-160: A155 Fasten off and cut the cord.
Weave in all ends. If any corners curl slightly, lightly moisten them and weigh them down until dry to help the rug lay perfectly flat.
