Mini Pig Crochet Pattern

Pattern Description:

Skill Level: Intermediate

Create your own life-sized mini pig with this free crochet pattern! This project is worked in two parts: Part I includes the head, body, and tail, while Part II finishes the pig with its ears and legs. It’s perfect for pig lovers and makes a great cuddly gift.

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky
    • (A) Blossom Heather – nose
    • (B) Oyster Heather – main body
    • (C) Mineral Heather – spots (optional)
  • Hook: 4.0mm (G) or 4.5mm (G+)
  • Notions:
    • Stuffing
    • 10mm plastic safety eyes
    • Yarn needle
    • Stitch marker or scrap yarn
    • Sewing pins (optional)

Abbreviations Used:

  • Ch – Chain
  • Sc – Single crochet
  • Dc – Double crochet
  • Sc dec – Single crochet decrease
  • Slp st – Slip stitch
  • FO – Finish off
  • BLO – Back loop only
  • FLO – Front loop only

Instructions for Making the Mini Pig Crochet Pattern Pattern:

Part I: Head, Body & Tail

  • Start with Nose (color A):
  • Ch 3. Work 2 sc in 2nd ch, 4 sc in last ch, rotate and 2 sc in first ch space. (8 sts)
  • Next round: 2 sc in each of first 5 sts, sc, loose slp st, sc. (13 sts) 3 dc in 1st st, sc in next 3 sts; repeat pattern around (leave last sc unworked).
  • Switch to color B Place marker.
  • Working in BLO, shape the face with increases and decreases over the next several rounds.
  • Continue increasing evenly until you reach 60 stitches.
  • At this point, attach safety eyes between Rounds 11 and 12, one just above the left-side decreases and one above the right.
  • Snout shaping:
  • Reattach color A to FLO of Round 4.
  • Slp st in first 2 loops, ch 1, then slp st in sets of 6 loops with ch 1 between.
  • Tie ends together and tuck inside.
  • Continue building up the head and body with increases.
  • Stuff firmly as you go, especially around Round 27.
  • From Rounds 27-44, work even at 60 stitches.
  • Shaping the body:
  • Start decreasing in the following rounds:
    • [Sc dec, sc 9] x6 (54 sts)
    • Sc all around
    • [Sc dec, sc 7] around (48 sts)
    • [Sc dec, sc 6] around (42 sts)
  • Tail:
  • After stuffing, at about 36 sts, make tail by chaining 9, slp st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next, then 2 sc in remaining 6 chains.
  • FO. Ensure the tail is centered.
  • Continue decreasing:
    • [Sc dec, sc 5] x4 (30 sts)
    • [Sc dec, sc 3] around (24 sts)
    • [Sc dec, sc 2] around (18 sts)
    • [Sc dec, sc] around (13 sts)
    • Sc dec around (6 sts) FO, sew hole shut.
  • Needle shaping (optional):
  • To reshape snout and eyes, insert yarn needle above one eye through to the other, pulling yarn gently to contour the face.

Part II: Ears & Legs

  • Ears (Make 2 – Color A)
  • Start with ch 2 or magic ring.
  • Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch, TURN
  • Row 2: Sc across
  • Row 3: Sc, 2 sc, 3 sc in last st (6 sts)
  • Row 4-8: Shape ear with increases and dec. Final row ends with about 7 sts. FO.
  • Let one ear curl forward naturally; flip the other inside out to mirror. Sew ears to Round 17 of the head, allowing 4-5 rounds of space from eyes.
  • Legs (Make 4 – Color A)
  • Rnd 1: 7 sc in magic ring
  • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each (14 sts)
  • Rnd 3: Sc around
  • Rnd 4: [2 sc, sc] around (21 sts)
  • Rnds 5-8: Sc around
  • Rnd 9: [2 sc, sc 3] around, sc in last (26 sts)
  • Rnds 10-12: Sc around
  • To shape foot:
  • Rnd 13: Sc 21, slp st, TURN
  • Rnd 14: Sc 10 FO, leaving the rest unworked.
  • Stuff legs and attach flat edge to body. Pin for placement before sewing to ensure the pig stands evenly.

Finishing Touches:

Weave in all ends. Block ears if needed to help them hold shape. Needle sculpt the face if you want more definition.
