Stitching Instructions for Making the Polka Dot Popcorn Socks Pattern:

Step 1: Cuff & Leg Section

  • Cuff:
    • Ch 10 (12, 14), turn.
    • Work 1 sc in second ch from hook and across, ch 1, turn. (9, 11, 13 sc total)
    • Work sc tbl in each st across, ch 1, turn.
    • Repeat Step 3 until the cuff measures the desired calf circumference (10, 11, or 12 inches).
    • Fold the cuff in half and sl st the ends together to form a loop.
  • Leg (Stripes & Popcorn Pattern):
    • With Dk Rose, ch 1, sc evenly around the edge of the cuff, sl st to first sc to join.
    • Switch to White, start the dc rounds:
      • Rnd 1: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in each st around, sl st to join.
      • Rnd 2: Ch 2, dc in next 2 sts, pop in next st, rep around, sl st to join.
    • Switch to Dk Rose, work sc rounds:
      • Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join.
      • Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join.
    • Continue alternating White (dc & popcorn rounds) and Dk Rose (sc rounds) until the leg measures desired length.

Step 2: Heel Flap & Turn

  • Heel Flap:
    • With Dk Rose, ch 1, work sc across half the stitches for the heel flap.
    • Turn, work back and forth in rows, maintaining sc in each st for 6 rows.
  • Heel Turn:
    • Ch 1, sc across to center, sc2tog, sc to end, turn.
    • Ch 1, sc across to one st before decrease, sc2tog, sc to end, turn.
    • Repeat until the heel is shaped into a curve.

Step 3: Gusset & Foot Section

  • Gusset Shaping:
    • With Dk Rose, ch 1, sc along the sides of the heel flap, making sure to pick up stitches evenly to prevent gaps.
    • Join to the instep stitches and work sc rounds, decreasing at both gusset edges every other round until the original stitch count is restored.
  • Foot (Stripe & Popcorn Pattern):
    • Continue in the stripe & popcorn stitch pattern for the foot, ending with an sc round before the toe.
    • Follow the same color sequence as the leg for a matching design.
    • The foot should measure about 1.5 inches shorter than the desired total foot length before starting the toe section.

Step 4: Toe Decreases & Finishing

  • Toe Shaping:
    • Change to Dk Rose, start decreasing for the toe: Sc in first stitch, sc2tog, sc across to last 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st, sl st to join.
    • Repeat the decrease every round until 8-10 sts remain.
  • Closing the Toe:
    • Fasten off, leaving a 6-inch yarn tail.
    • Use a tapestry needle to weave yarn through remaining sts.
    • Pull tight to close, weave in ends securely.

Final Touches

  • Block socks lightly to even out the stitches.
  • Try them on and enjoy your Polka Dot Popcorn Socks!
