Stitching Instructions for Making the Simple Collar Dress Pattern:
Step 1: Foundation Chain

- Create the Foundation Chain:
- Chain (Ch) the required number of stitches to fit your chest circumference. Ensure the total chain count is divisible by the gauge (14 HDC = 10 cm). For example, for size M, your foundation chain might be approximately 120-140 chains, depending on your chest measurement.
- Join the chain into a loop with a Slip Stitch (Sl St) into the first Ch, ensuring it’s not twisted.
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as the first HDC of the round). Work 1 HDC into each Ch around. Join the round with a Sl St into the top of the beginning Ch-2.
Step 2: Body Construction

- Upper Torso
- Rounds 2–10 (or desired length for the upper torso):
- Ch 2, HDC in each St around. At the end of each round, join with Sl St into the top of the beginning Ch-2.
- Optional Shaping for the Waist: If you want the dress to taper slightly at the waist:
- Dec Round: Ch 2, HDC in the next 5 St, HDC2tog (Dec). Rep from to around. Join with Sl St.
- Work 3 rounds of HDC without shaping.
- Inc Round: Ch 2, HDC in the next 6 St, 2 HDC (Inc) in the next St. Rep from to around. Join with Sl St.
- Skirt Construction
- Continue working in rounds, gradually increasing to create a flared skirt:
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as the first HDC), then HDC in each St around. Join with Sl St.
- Increase Rounds:
- Every 3rd Round: Add increases evenly across the round to create a flare. For example:
- Ch 2, HDC in the next 8 St, 2 HDC in the next St (Inc). Rep from to around.
- Continue repeating this pattern, adding increases as needed, until the skirt reaches your desired length.
- Note: For a straight skirt, skip the increases and work even HDC in each round.
- Every 3rd Round: Add increases evenly across the round to create a flare. For example:
Step 3: Collar

- Collar Base:
- Join the yarn to the neckline with a Sl St in any stitch along the edge.
- Ch 1, SC evenly around the neckline to create a clean edge. Join with a Sl St.
- Building the Collar:
- Ch 2, work HDC in each St around the neckline.
- Rep this round for 4–6 rounds, depending on the desired collar height.
- Fasten off and weave in the end.
Step 4: Finishing Touches

- Fastening Off: After completing the last round, fasten off the yarn and pull it through the final loop securely.
- Weaving in Ends: Use a tapestry needle to weave in all loose ends on the inside of the garment.
- Blocking: Gently block the dress to smooth out the stitches and set the shape. Use a steam or wet blocking method depending on the yarn used.
Additional Notes
- Stitch Markers: Use stitch markers to mark the start of rounds or key shaping points to maintain symmetry.
- Customizations: Add stripes, color changes, or texture by alternating stitch patterns like SC, DC, or puff stitches in select rows.
- Checking Fit: Try the dress on periodically to ensure the fit and length are as desired.
