Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 4 colors
  • Yarn Measurements:
    • Main Color (CA): ~390 yards
    • Other Colors (CB, CC, CD): Small amounts
  • Gauge or Hook Size: Size N (9mm) crochet hook; Gauge: 5 dc = 2 inches
  • Finished Pattern Size: Approximately 12 inches in diameter & 8 inches tall
  • Other Tools: Yarn needle for finishing

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sp = space
  • rep = repeat
  • FO = fasten off

  • ea = each

Stitching Instructions for Making the Spikes Yarn Basket Crochet Pattern:

Start with CA (Main Color):

  • Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 13 dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st to join. (14 dc)

Notes:

  • The Spike Stitch creates texture by inserting the hook into the previous round instead of the current round.
  • Invisible Join is used to create a seamless look when changing colors.
  • The basket is worked in joined rounds, so each round must be joined using either a slip stitch or an invisible join.
  • Handles are formed in the last few rounds by skipping stitches and chaining to create openings.
