Instructions for Making the Sunny Granny Square Pattern
Round 1: The Sunburst Center

- Using your first color (e.g., Citron), make a slip knot, then ch 4, and join with a ss to form a ring.
- Ch 3 (counts as 1 tr), then work 15 tr into the ring.
- Join with a ss to the top of the starting ch-3.
- [16 tr in total]
- Fasten off and change color.
Round 2: Raised Puff Petals

- Join second color (e.g., Saffron) into any stitch.
- Ch 3, then make 1 tr in same st, skip next st, 2 tr in next st – repeat from to around.
- You should have 8 pairs of tr clusters with one skipped stitch between each.
- Join with ss to the top of ch-3.
- Fasten off and change color.
Round 3: Fluffy Outer Sunburst

- Join a new color (e.g., Spice).
- Into each space between the tr clusters from Round 2, work: (2 tr, 1 dtr, ch 2, 1 dtr, 2 tr)
- This will give a flared, flower-like look with 8 “petals.”
- Join with ss to the starting st.
- Fasten off.
Round 4: Squaring the Circle

- Join a contrasting color (e.g., Shrimp) into any ch-2 space of the previous round.
- Begin shaping the square: In each ch-2 space: (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr) – this forms the corner. In between each corner space, work 3 tr into the space between the petals.
- You will now see the circle becoming a square shape.
- Join with ss and fasten off.
Round 5: Final Square Border

- Join your final color (e.g., Violet) into any corner ch-2 space.
- In each corner space: (3 tr, ch 2, 3 tr)
- Along each side, work 3 tr into the spaces between clusters from the previous round.
- Continue all the way around to complete the square.
- Join with a slip stitch, fasten off, and weave in all ends.
Finishing Touches

Once complete, block your square gently to shape if necessary. You can use these motifs to create:
- A full-size blanket (as done in the Sunny Log Cabin Blanket)
- Decorative cushion covers
- Vibrant table runners or wall hangings
- Tote bags or pouches by joining squares together
