The Friendly Grace

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn: Size 4 yarn (approximately 150g)
  • Yarn Measurements: Approximate 150g size 4 yarn for the doll; additional yarn for hair and clothes
  • Hook Size: 3.5mm or 3.75mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry Needle: Needed for sewing parts and weaving ends
  • Stuffing: Recommended stuffing, particularly for dolls

Pattern Measurements:

  • Legs: 18 stitches around at the thickest point, approximately 28 rounds in length
  • Body: 42 stitches around the widest part, approximately 22 rounds in height before the head begins
  • Head: 54 stitches around at the widest part

Abbreviations:

  • SC – Single Crochet
  • SC INC – Single Crochet Increase (2 SC in one stitch)
  • INV DEC – Invisible Decrease (work decrease only in front loops)
  • Magic Circle – A looped starting method for a tightly closed circle

Round by Round Stitching Instructions for The Friendly Grace Pattern:

Legs

  • Leg 1:
    • Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6. (6)
    • Round 2: SC INC in each stitch around. (12)
    • Round 3: SC in the first stitch, SC INC in the next. Repeat around. (18)
    • Rounds 4-10: SC in each stitch around. (18)
    • Change to skin color.
    • Rounds 11-38: SC in each stitch around. (18)
    • Fasten off and set aside.
  • Leg 2: Repeat steps for the first leg, but do not fasten off at the end.
  • Joining Legs:
    • Round 39: Chain 3, then SC in the next stitch on the other leg. Continue SC around the entire leg. When you reach the chains, SC in each chain, then continue around the other leg. (42)

Body

  • Rounds 40-60: SC in each stitch around. (42)
    • (If adding a dress, change to dress color at Round 41)
  • Change back to skin color for the top part of the body. (Optional: Crochet the first row of skin color in the back loop only for a cleaner line).
  • Round 61: SC 4, INV DEC, repeat around. (35)
  • Round 62: SC 3, INV DEC, repeat around. (28)
  • Round 63: SC 2, INV DEC, repeat around. (21)

Arms

  • Round 1: In a magic circle, SC 6. (6)
  • Round 2: SC INC in each stitch around. (12)
  • Rounds 3-28: SC in each stitch around. (12)
    • (For sleeves, stop at Row 23 with skin color, then switch to the dress color for the remaining rounds)
  • Lightly stuff the arms and sew them to the body between rows 62 and 63.
