Stitching Instructions for Making the Vine Colorwork Crochet Sock Pattern:
Cuff
- Ch 12 (or adjust based on desired cuff height).
- Row 1: Work 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (11 sts)
- Rows 2-40: Turn, ch 1, work sc blo in each st across. This creates a stretchy ribbing texture. (11 sts per row)
- Tip: Adjust the row count to fit the circumference of your leg snugly. The ribbing should stretch slightly when worn.
- Fold the cuff in half. Join the two edges using sl st through both loops of each st across. Fasten off AC.
Leg
- Using the 2.5 mm hook, attach MC to the edge of the cuff.
- Foundation Round: Work sc evenly around the ribbed cuff edge, ensuring you have an even number of sts. Join with sl st to the first sc.
- Tip: For a clean join, place the stitches consistently in the row ends of the ribbing.
- Begin the vine colorwork pattern:
- Round 1 (MC): Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, sc flo in next st with AC. Rep from * to end. Join with sl st to the first sc.
- Round 2 (MC): Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st.
- Round 3 (AC): Ch 1, sc flo in next 3 sts with AC, sc flo in next st with MC. Rep from * to end. Join with sl st.
- Round 4 (MC): Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st.
- Repeat Rounds 1-4 to continue the vine motif. Adjust the number of repeats to achieve the desired leg length.
Heel
- Divide the total sts in half. Work the heel on these sts in rows using MC:
- Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc across heel sts. Turn.
- Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc blo across. Turn.
- Repeat Rows 1-2 to form a rectangular heel flap. Continue until the flap height equals approximately 2.5 inches (adjust for fit).
- Tip: To customize the fit, increase or decrease the number of rows for the heel flap.
- After completing the heel flap, create a gusset by picking up sts along the edges of the heel flap and rejoining with the instep sts. Gradually decrease gusset sts in the following rounds until the foot circumference matches the leg circumference.
Foot
- Resume working in rounds with MC and AC, maintaining the vine motif pattern:
- Follow the established Rounds 1-4 colorwork instructions for the leg.
- Continue until the sock length reaches approximately 2 inches less than the total foot length.
Toe
- Switch to MC and begin decreasing:
- Round 1: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog. Rep from * to end. Join with sl st.
- Round 2: Ch 1, sc evenly around. Join with sl st.
- Repeat Rounds 1-2, decreasing the number of sts between sc2tog in each decrease round (e.g., sc 2, sc2tog in the next round).
- When only a small number of sts remain (about 8-12 sts), fasten off, leaving a long tail. Use a yarn needle to weave the tail through the remaining sts and pull tightly to close the toe. Weave in the end securely.
Tips for Success
- Use stitch markers to indicate the beginning of rounds and to track the colorwork pattern.
- Always carry the unused color loosely along the back of the work to prevent puckering.
- Block the finished socks to smooth out stitches and perfect the shape.
