Instructions for Making the C2C Rainbow Hand Towel Pattern:

C2C Width Increase Portion

This section builds the width of the towel.

  • Row 1: Ch 6, then work 1 dc into the 4th ch from the hook. Work 1 dc into each of the next 2 ch.
  • Row 2: Ch 6. Work 1 dc into the 4th ch from the hook and into each of the next 2 ch. Sl st into the 3rd dc st to join the two blocks together (you may need to flip the block so the tail is pointing downward to ensure correct position). Ch 3, then work 3 dc into the turning ch space.
  • Row 3: Ch 6 (you may need to turn the work so the tail is facing downward again). Work 1 dc into the 4th ch from the hook and in each of the next 2 ch. Sl st into the turning ch space of the next block to join the two blocks together. You may need to flip the block slightly to find the right spot, ensuring the tail is pointing downward. Ch 3, then work 3 dc into the turning ch space and sl st into the turning ch space to join the two blocks together. Rep from across. When working the last block, do not sl st it into anything.
  • Rep Row 3 until the towel reaches the desired width. The towel pictured is 11.5 inches wide. Once the desired width is achieved, proceed to the height increase portion.

C2C Height Increase Portion

To avoid mixing up the sides during this phase, it is recommended to place a st marker on the side where you begin decreasing.

  • Row 1: Ch 6, then work 1 dc into the fourth ch from the hook. Work 1 dc in each of the next two ch, then join with a sl st to connect the two blocks. Work (3 dc, ch 1) and join blocks with a sl st in each ch 1 space across until just before the last space (the turning ch space). At the row end, join into the last block with a sl st.
  • Turn the work and sl st in each st across the first block of the row. Cont. across the row in this manner, working the increase at the beginning of the row and decreasing at the end of the row (where the st marker is placed).
  • Rep this row until the towel is as tall as you like. The height of the pictured towel is about 22 inches tall.

C2C Decrease Portion

  • Row 1: Turn the work and sl st in each st across the first block, and sl st into the turning ch space. Ch 3, then work 3 dc into the turning ch space. Join into the next block with a sl st. Rep from to the end of row.
  • Rep Row 1 of the decrease until only a top point remains. If working the top point is difficult, check the available video for step-by-step guidance.

Finishing

Fasten off the yarn. Weave in any ends that remain, and the project is finished.
