Entrelac Crochet Baby Blanket Free Pattern

Materials Needed & Measurements:

• Approx. 720 yards of Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn
  • Color A (Seafoam): approx. 300 yards
  • Color B (Vanilla): approx. 220 yards
  • Color C (Cloudburst): approx. 200 yards
• 8 mm Tunisian Crochet Hook
• Yarn Needle
• Scissors
• Finished Size: 34″ x 34″ (Baby blanket size)
• Gauge:
  • From peak to peak = 3.5″
  • 7 rows = 3.5″

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• Fwd = Forward pass (Tunisian stitch)
• Rtn = Return pass (Tunisian stitch)

• YO = yarn over

Stitching Instructions for Making the Entrelac Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern:

Center Block:

• Row 1 (Foundation):
  • With Color A, ch 6.
  • Fwd: Insert hk in 2nd ch from hk. YO and pull up a loop. Rep from to the last ch (6 loops on hk).
  • Rtn: YO and pull through one loop. YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop rem on hk.
• Rows 2-4:
  • Fwd: Tss. Rep from to end of row. Insert hk in last st. YO and pull up a loop (6 loops on hk).
  • Rtn: YO and pull through one loop. YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop rem on hk.
• Row 5 (Bind Off):
  • Insert hk in 2nd bar from hk as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk.
  • Insert hk in next bar as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk. Rep from to end of row. Fasten off.

Round 2 (4 Blocks)

• 1st Block of Round 2 (Corner Block):
• Row 1:
  • Join Color B in the same corner as the bind off. Ch 6.
  • Fwd: Insert hk in 2nd ch from hk. YO and pull up a loop. Rep from to the last ch. Insert hk in the edge of 2nd row of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop (7 loops on hk).
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop rem on hk.
• Rows 2-4:
  • Fwd: Tss. Rep from to end of row. Insert hk in the edge of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop.
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop remains on hk.
• Row 5 (Bind Off):
  • Insert hk in 2nd bar from hk as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk.
  • Insert hk in next bar as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk. Rep from to end of row. Join with a slst to the first row of the adjacent block.

2nd, 3rd, and 4th Blocks of Round 2 (Corner Blocks):

• Cont with Color B, ch 6. Do not turn.
• Working into ch 6 and across the side of the center block, rep rows 1-4 as given for 1st block of round 2.
• At the end of the 4th block, slst to the corner of the adjacent block. Fasten off.

Round 3 (8 Blocks)

• 1st Block of Round 3 (Corner Block):
• Row 1:
  • Join Color C in either corner of 1st block of round 2 and ch 6.
  • Fwd: Insert hk in 2nd ch from hk. YO and pull up a loop. Rep from to the last ch. Insert hk in the edge of the second row of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop (7 loops on hk).
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop remains on hk.
• Rows 2-4:
  • Fwd: Tss. Rep from to end of row. Insert hk in the edge of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop.
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop remains on hk.
• Row 5 (Bind Off):
  • Insert hk in the 2nd bar from hk as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk.
  • Insert hk in next bar as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk. Rep from to end of row. Join with a slst to the first row of the adjacent block.

2nd Block of Round 3 (Side Block):

• Row 1:
  • Cont with Color C, Fwd: Insert hk in next st of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop. Rep from to last st. Insert hk in the edge of the second row of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop (7 loops on hk).
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop remains on hk.
• Rows 2-4:
  • Fwd: Tss. Rep from to end of row. Insert hk in the edge of the adjacent block. YO and pull up a loop.
  • Rtn: YO and pull through 2 loops. Rep from until only one loop remains on hk.
• Row 5 (Bind Off):
  • Insert hk in the 2nd bar from hk as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk.
  • Insert hk in next bar as if to Tss. YO and pull up a loop. Pull the same loop through the loop on hk. Rep from to end of row. Join with a slst to the first row of the adjacent block.

Finishing:

• Join Blocks: After completing all blocks, use a yarn needle to sew together the blocks by aligning the edges. Secure them tightly.
• Border (Optional):
  • With Color A, attach the yarn to a corner.
  • Ch 1, then work sc evenly around the entire blanket, placing 3 sc in each corner.
  • Join with a slst to the first sc and fasten off.
• Weave in Ends: Use the yarn needle to weave in all loose ends.
• Final Touch: Block the blanket to even out the edges and ensure it’s the correct size (34″ x 34″).
