Barbed Fingerless Gloves

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Yarn: Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek (approximately 165 yards total)
  • Hook: I (Boye 5.25mm) hook
  • Additional Tools:
    • Scissors
    • Needle
    • 2 buttons (¾ inch each)

Measurements:

  • Finished Glove Size:
    • Length: 8 inches
    • Width (at wrist): 4 inches

Abbreviations Used:

  • CH: Chain
  • HDC: Half Double Crochet
  • SC: Single Crochet
  • FP HDC: Front Post Half Double Crochet
  • DC: Double Crochet
  • SK: Skip
  • ST: Stitch
  • SL: Slip Stitch
  • FBL: Front Back Loop

Stitching Instructions for Making the Barbed Fingerless Gloves Pattern:

Right Hand Glove

  • Foundation Chain: CH 28.
  • ROW 1 (Right Side):
    • HDC in the 2nd CH from the hook and in the next 2 sts.
    • Repeat (CH 1, SK 1, HDC in the next 3 sts) 6 times. (27 sts total)
  • ROW 2:
    • CH 1 (does not count as a ST), turn.
    • SC in the first 2 sts.
    • FP HDC in the next ST, DC in the skipped starting CH.
    • Repeat (FP HDC, SC, FP HDC, DC in the skipped starting CH) 5 times.
    • FP HDC, SC in the last 2 sts.
  • ROW 3:
    • CH 1 (does not count as a ST), turn.
    • HDC in the first 3 sts.
    • Repeat (CH 1, SK 1, HDC in the next 3 sts) 6 times.
  • ROW 4:
    • CH 1 (does not count as a ST), turn.
    • SC in the first 2 sts.
    • Repeat (FP HDC, DC in the skipped ST of the previous ROW, FP HDC, SC) 6 times.
    • SC in the last ST.
  • ROWS 5-28:
    • Repeat ROW 3 and ROW 4 alternately.
    • At this point, the piece should measure approximately 7” wide and 8” tall.

Seaming:

  • Fold the piece with right sides together, aligning the starting CH with ROW 28.
  • SL the ends together for 4 sts.
  • SL the next 9 sts along ROW 28 (leaving a thumb hole).
  • SL the last 15 sts of both panels together.
    • Ensure the SL sts are not too tight to avoid puckering.

Bottom Trim:

  • Turn the glove right side out.
  • ROUND 1:
    • CH 1 (does not count as a ST).
    • Place 1 SC in the end of each ROW.
    • SL to the beginning SC to connect (28 sts).
  • Create a ribbed band:
    • CH 6, turn, and work back down the CH:
      • HDC in the 2nd CH from the hook and in each CH back to the main panel (5 sts).
      • SL in the next 3 sts of ROUND 1.
    • Repeat:
      • Turn, work back up the HDC sts, HDC in the FBL of 4 sts, HDC in the last ST.
      • CH 1, turn, and work back down the HDC sts (5 sts).
      • SL in the next 3 sts of ROUND 1.
    • Repeat 6 more times.
  • Add finishing touches:
    • CH 1, turn, work back up the HDC sts, HDC in each ST (5 sts).
    • CH 1, turn, and work back down the HDC sts (5 sts).
    • Repeat twice more.
  • Buttonhole and edging:
    • CH 1, turn, work back up the HDC sts: HDC in the first 2 sts, CH 1, SK 1, HDC in the last 2 sts.
    • CH 1, turn, and work back down: SC in the first ST, SK 1, place 3 HDC in the CH space, SK 1, SC in the last ST.
  • Cut yarn, tie off, and weave in ends.

Left Hand Glove

  • Repeat Part 1 for the left glove.
  • In Part 2, do not turn the glove right side out after seaming.
  • Complete the trim as for the right glove.
  • Turn the glove right side out before attaching the button.
