Stitching Instructions for Making the Stained Glass Fingerless Gloves Pattern:

Foundation:

  • With MC, FSC 45 (30 for the pattern, 10 for wrist cuff, and 5 for the finger edge allowance).
    • FSC (Foundation Single Crochet): This stitch combines the chain and single crochet in one step, providing a stretchy foundation. To start, yarn over, pull through, and complete a single crochet in the same stitch.
  • Measure to check that the length of your foundation chain matches the desired length of the gloves (approximately 9″ long).
  • Ch 1, and turn the work.

Row 1 (Right Side):

  • sc in BLO (Back Loop Only) of the first 10 stitches (for wrist cuff).
  • FPDC around the next stitch, switching to CC on the last loop of the dc.
    • To make a FPDC, yarn over, insert your hook around the post of the stitch (from the front), yarn over again, pull up a loop, yarn over, and complete the double crochet.
    • Change to CC on the last loop of the dc and drop MC to the back (don’t cut the MC).
  • With CC, and working in both loops, repeat the following sequence:
    • sc in 1st, hdc in 2nd, dc in each of the next 5 stitches, hdc in the next, sc in the next, ch 1, skip 1 stitch.
    • Repeat from across the row, finishing with sc in the last stitch before the finger edge allowance and changing to MC2 (use a second skein of MC or the other end of the same yarn).
    • FPDC around the next stitch.
    • sc in BLO for the remaining 4 stitches.
    • Ch 1, and turn.

Row 2 (Wrong Side):

  • sc in BLO of the first 4 stitches.
  • BPDC around the FPDC of the previous row, changing to CC.
    • To make a BPDC, yarn over, insert the hook from the back of the post (around the FPDC of the previous row), yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, and complete the double crochet.
    • Drop MC2 on the side facing you.
  • With CC, work in both loops:
    • sc in the first stitch, hdc in the next, dc in each of the next 5 stitches, hdc in the next, sc in the next, ch 1, skip 1 stitch.
    • Repeat * across the row until you reach the last 4 stitches before the cuff.
    • sc in the next stitch, hdc in the next, dc in the last 2 stitches, and change to MC on the last loop of the last dc.
    • BPDC around the FPDC of the previous row.
    • sc in BLO of the last 10 stitches.
    • Ch 1, and turn.

Row 3 (Right Side):

  • sc in BLO of the first 10 stitches (wrist cuff).
  • FPDC around the BPDC of the previous row (do not change color).
  • sc in each of the next 9 stitches.
  • dc into the skipped stitch from the foundation (this is a stitch from Row 9 if you are repeating the pattern).
    • For this, you will be crocheting into a stitch from a previous row, creating the textured effect.
  • Repeat the * sequence across, finishing with FPDC around the next stitch and sc in BLO of the last 4 stitches.
  • Ch 1, and turn.

Row 4 (Wrong Side):

  • sc in BLO of the first 4 stitches.
  • BPDC around the FPDC of the previous row, changing to MC.
  • Drop MC2 on the side facing you.
  • Working in both loops, repeat the following:
    • sc in each stitch until you reach the cuff, then BPDC around the FPDC of the previous row.
  • sc in BLO of the last 10 stitches.
  • Ch 1, and turn.

Rows 5 to 8 (Repeat Rows 1-4):

  • Repeat Rows 1-4 three more times.
  • Continue alternating between MC and CC for the stained-glass effect. Change colors at the indicated points (at the FPDC stitches) to create the beautiful pattern.

Finishing:

  • After completing the final row, stop at Row 7. Measure the width of the glove, or try it on to check the fit (the glove shown measures approximately 7.5” around).
  • Seaming the Glove: With the glove inside out, working through the last row and the FSC row:
    • sl st the first 12 stitches (1.75″) to join the sides together for the finger opening.
    • Fasten off and cut the yarn.
  • Cuff:
    • Join MC at the cuff and sl st through the last row and FSC row to join the sides together for the cuff.
    • Seam the next 25 stitches (approximately 4.5” or to fit). Fasten off and weave in the ends.
