Stitching Round for Clip-On Water Bottle Holder Pattern:
Starting the Base:
Foundation Round: Begin with a magic ring and crochet 6 single crochets (sc) into the ring. Pull the ring tight and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc to close the round.
Increase Rounds: Work in continuous rounds to form a sturdy circular base:
- Round 1: Work 2 sc in each stitch around (12 sc total).
- Round 2: 1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from to around (18 sc).
- Round 3: 1 sc in each of the next 2 stitches, 2 sc in the next stitch; repeat from to around (24 sc).
Continue to increase each round by adding one more sc before each increase until the base reaches the desired diameter:
- Narrow Bottle: Approx. 7 cm (2.75”) in diameter.
- Wide Bottle: Approx. 9.5 cm (3.75”) in diameter.
Once the base reaches the diameter you need, finish the last round with a sl st.
Working the Mesh Body:
- Setup Round: Begin the mesh pattern with a chain (ch) 4 (counts as 1 double crochet (dc) + ch 1). Skip 1 stitch and dc in the next stitch. Ch 1, skip 1 stitch, dc in the next stitch; repeat from to around. Join with a sl st to the third chain of the beginning ch 4.
- Mesh Pattern Rounds: For each following round:
- Ch 4, skip 1 space, dc in the next dc. Ch 1, skip 1 space, dc in the next dc; repeat from to around. Join each round with a sl st to the third chain of the beginning ch 4.
- Customize Diameter: Work in this mesh pattern until the holder reaches a snug fit for the width of the bottle. For stretchier holders, try chaining 2 between each dc instead of 1.
Building the Height:
- Height Rounds: Continue working in the mesh pattern, maintaining even tension, until the holder reaches your desired height, typically a few inches below the bottle’s cap. Measure as you go to ensure a good fit.
- Optional Elasticity: For a tighter fit, you can switch to single crochet rounds for the top few rows.
Adding the Loop for the Carabiner:
- Loop Foundation: At the end of your last mesh round, ch 8–10, depending on the carabiner size, to form a loop.
- Securing the Loop: Attach the end of the chain to the opposite side of the top edge with a sl st. Then, work slip stitches or single crochets evenly around the chain loop to reinforce it, ensuring it’s secure enough for frequent use.
- Final Join: Finish with a sl st to the first stitch of the loop and fasten off.
Finishing:
- Weave in Ends: Use a yarn needle to weave in any loose ends securely, hiding them within the stitches to prevent fraying.
- Attaching Carabiner: Slip the carabiner through the loop. Now, your bottle holder is ready to be clipped onto a bag or backpack for easy carrying!
