Stitching Instructions for Making the Satisfaction Socks Pattern:

Cuff

  • Ch 9 (or desired width for ribbing).
  • Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across, turn. (8 sts)
  • Row 2: Ch 1, sc blo in each st across, turn. (8 sts)
  • Rep Row 2 until cuff reaches the desired ankle circumference (should be snug but stretchable).
  • Fold cuff in half and join with sl st or sc through both layers to form a loop.
  • Do not FO. Turn work to start the leg section.

Leg

  • Work sc rounds evenly around the edge of the cuff. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
  • Round 1: Sc evenly around, join with sl st to first sc. (Stitch count should be a multiple of 4.)
  • Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st to first sc.
  • Rep Round 2 until leg measures 6-8 inches (or desired length).

Afterthought Heel Placement

  • Determine the heel placement (typically at about 2 inches before the total foot length).
  • Take contrast yarn and sc across half the stitches to create a placeholder row.
  • Return to the main yarn and continue sc in the round, ignoring the contrast yarn.

Foot

  • Continue working sc in the round until the foot length is about 1.5 inches shorter than the total foot size.
  • Ensure the fit is snug but comfortable before proceeding to the toe shaping.

Toe Shaping

  • Round 1: (Sc 6, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Round 2: (Sc 5, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Round 3: (Sc 4, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Round 4: (Sc 3, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Round 5: (Sc 2, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Round 6: (Sc 1, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Continue decreasing in this pattern until about 8-10 sts remain.
  • Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and use a tapestry needle to close the toe using the Kitchener stitch or by pulling tight like a drawstring.

Afterthought Heel

  • Carefully remove the contrast yarn at the heel placement to reveal live stitches.
  • Attach yarn and pick up the live stitches around the heel opening.
  • Round 1: Sc evenly around the heel opening, making sure to pick up any gaps at the corners.
  • Round 2: Sc in each st around.
  • Heel Decreases:
    • Round 3: (Sc 6, sc2tog) rep around.
    • Round 4: (Sc 5, sc2tog) rep around.
    • Round 5: (Sc 4, sc2tog) rep around.
    • Round 6: (Sc 3, sc2tog) rep around.
    • Round 7: (Sc 2, sc2tog) rep around.
    • Round 8: (Sc 1, sc2tog) rep around.
  • Continue decreasing every round until 8-10 sts remain.
  • Cut yarn and close the heel using the Kitchener stitch or drawstring method.

Finishing

  • FO and weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
  • Block socks if needed for better shape and fit.
