Pattern Instructions:
Round 1
Start with a magic ring and work (1 dc, ch 1) 12 times inside the ring. This forms a central circle with evenly spaced chain stitches.
Pull the ring tight to close securely. Fasten off the first color, ensuring the end is woven in neatly.
You should have 12 ch1-spaces evenly distributed around the center, creating the foundation for your mandala.
Round 2 (new color)
In this round, work (1 sc, ch 2) in every ch1-space created in the previous round. This will give you 12 ch2-spaces to work with, setting up the next layer of your mandala.
Be mindful of your tension to maintain an even and uniform look throughout your project. Fasten off the second color when complete, leaving a neat edge for the next round.
Round 3 (new color)
In each ch2-space, work (dc3tog, ch 3). This creates a beautiful cluster of double crochets gathered together, adding dimension and texture to your mandala.
To perform the dc3tog: yarn over, insert your hook into the ch2-space, pull up a loop, yarn over again, and pull through 2 loops (2 loops remain on the hook).
Repeat this step two more times in the same space, then yarn over and pull through all 4 loops on the hook. Fasten off after completing all 12 clusters, ensuring each one is distinct and well-formed.
Round 4 (new color)
In every ch3-space from the previous round, work 4 dc. This round will significantly increase the size of your mandala, filling it with vivid and lush double crochet clusters.
Make sure to stitch evenly to create a smooth, flowing edge as the mandala grows.
Round 5 (new color)
For this round, create surface stitches between the double crochets from the previous round.
These surface stitches will add an additional layer of texture and interest, giving your mandala a unique look. Take your time to position the stitches carefully for a clean finish.
Round 6 (double round)
6a (new color): Work (1 dc, ch 2, skip one stitch) around the previous round. This sequence creates spaces for the next round, enhancing the mandala’s overall structure and design.
Join with a slip stitch to the first dc to complete the round, ensuring a smooth transition to the next phase.
6b (new color): Fold the stitches from round 6a slightly forward to create depth and dimension. Work the same sequence as before, but this time into the skipped stitches from the previous round, reinforcing the layered effect of the mandala.
Round 7 (new color)
In each ch2-space created in the previous round, work 3 dc. Be sure to insert your hook into both parts of the ch2-space to maintain stability and prevent any sagging.
This round will further enhance the richness of the design, making it more eye-catching.
Round 8 (new color)
In this round, work (1 sc, ch 4) in between every 3 dc group from the previous round. The ch4 will create larger gaps, which will be utilized in the next round.
This addition of space not only enhances the visual appeal but also contributes to the mandala’s overall flow.
Round 9 (same color)
Finally, work (1 hdc, 3 dc, 1 hdc) in every ch4-space. This round will give a lovely textured finish to your mandala, bringing all the elements together harmoniously.
Ensure each stitch is placed carefully to maintain the beautiful shape and integrity of your work.
