Stitching Instructions for Making the Comfort Rib Socks Pattern:

Working the Foot:

  • Starting the Toe:
    • Begin by creating a ring using 4 ch with your hook size 3.5 mm/E/4. To do this, make a slip stitch (sl st) in the first chain to form a ring.
    • Round 1: Work 6 sc in the ch-ring. This forms the first round of the toe.
    • Round 2: Work 2 sc in every sc (increase). This will give you 12 sc (6 sc in each stitch of the previous round).
    • Round 3: Work 1 sc in every sc around (no increase). Repeat for the next rounds, continuing to work one sc in each stitch of the previous round.

Increasing the Toe:

  • Round 4: 1 sc in the first sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 6-6-5 times, depending on the size of the sock, until you have a total of 18-18-15 sc.
  • Round 6: 1 sc in each of the first 2 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 6-6-5 times until you have 24-24-20 sc.
  • Round 8: 1 sc in each of the first 3 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 6-6-5 times for 30-30-25 sc.
  • Round 10: 1 sc in each of the first 4 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 6-6-5 times for 36-36-30 sc.
  • Round 12: 1 sc in each of the first 5 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 6-5 times to create 42-35 sc.
  • Round 14: 1 sc in each of the first 6 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 5 times to create 40 sc.
  • Round 16: 1 sc in each of the first 7 sc, 2 sc in the next sc, repeat from – 5 times to create 45 sc.
  • Continuing the Foot: Work in the round with 1 sc in every sc until the foot piece measures approximately 14-16-18 cm (5½”-6¼”-7″).

Dividing for the Heel:

  • Once the foot section reaches the appropriate length, divide the piece by working sc back and forth across the first 24-30-32 sc (do not work the last 12-12-13 sc in the round).
  • Work in rows, following CROCHET INFO:
    • Start each row with 1 ch to replace the first sc.
    • Finish each row with 1 sl st in the ch from the previous row.
  • Continue crocheting in rows until the sock measures 20-22-25 cm (8″-8¾”-9¾”).

Shaping the Heel:

  • Insert a marker in the middle of the heel section, 12-15-16 sc on each side of the marker.
  • Dec Row: To decrease, work 1 sc in each of the first 2 sc, then work the next 4 sc together 2 by 2. This is your decrease tip (work 1 sc but wait with the last pull through, then work the next sc and pull through both loops on the hook). Repeat this for the rest of the row.
  • After decreasing, you will have 20-26-28 sc remaining.
  • Work one row without decreasing.
  • Repeat the decrease row (another 2 sc dec) and work another row without decreasing. The sock now measures 22-24-27 cm (8¾”-9½”-10½”).

Making the Leg:

  • To create the leg, begin by making a ch of 33 using your DROPS Alaska yarn and hook size 3.5 mm/E/4.
  • Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, and then work 1 sc in every ch until the end of the row (32 sc).
  • Now, work back and forth using only the back loop of each stitch. This will create a ribbed texture.
  • Continue working back and forth until the leg piece measures 16-16-18 cm (6¼”-6¼”-7″).

Attaching the Leg to the Foot:

  • Once the leg is the desired length, align the opening of the sock with the long edge of the leg.
  • With the sock and leg pieces positioned together, work them together using a row of sl sts through both layers from the wrong side.

Assembly and Finishing:

  • Turn the sock inside out so the right side is facing out.
  • Fold the sock in half and work a sl st from the wrong side to join the back seam.
  • Fasten off the yarn and weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.
