Crochet Dinosaur Pillow Cover

Materials Needed:

  • Suggested Yarn: Medium weight yarn #4 in the following colors: blue, white, yellow, pink
  • Recommended Yarn Brand: Himalaya Everyday Super Lux with color codes: #73405 (blue), #73401 (white), #73420 (yellow)
  • Hook Size: 3.5 mm (recommend Hamanaka hook)
  • Other Supplies:
    • Scissors
    • Pins
    • Needles
    • Fiberfill stuffing
    • One pair of safety eyes (16 mm)
    • Optional: Fabric for pillow insert

Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Dinosaur Pillow Cover Patern:

Head and Body

  • Round 1: MR, work 6 Sc into the ring. Pull the ring tight and close with a Ss. (6)
  • Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. Repeat 6 times. (12)
  • Round 3: (Sc, Inc) around. Repeat 6 times. (18)
  • Round 4: (Sc in next 2, Inc) around. Repeat 6 times. (24)
  • Rounds 5-10: Sc in each stitch around. Repeat 6 rounds to build height. (24)
  • Round 11: (Sc in next 2, Dec) around. Repeat 6 times. (18)

Arms (Make 2)

    • Lightly stuff the arms, if desired, or leave unstuffed for flexibility.
    • Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing to the body.

Legs (Make 2)

  • Round 1: MR, work 6 Sc into the ring. Close with a Ss. (6)

    • Stuff with fiberfill for firmness.

Spikes (Make 5)

Tail

  • Round 1: MR, work 4 Sc into the ring. Close with a Ss. (4)
  • Round 2: (Sc, Inc) around. Repeat 2 times. (6)
  • Rounds 3-10: Sc in each stitch around. Repeat 8 rounds. (6)
    • Lightly stuff the tail to maintain a thin, flexible shape.
    • Fasten off, leaving a long tail for attaching to the body.

Eyes

  • Insert 16 mm safety eyes into the head, approximately 5 stitches apart, between Rounds 7 and 8.
  • Optional: Use white yarn or embroidery floss to add highlights for a more expressive look.

Assembly

  • Attach the Head to the Body:
    • Center the head on one end of the body. Use the long tail from the head to sew it securely to the body.
    • Work around evenly to ensure a tight seam.
  • Attach Arms and Legs:
    • Position the arms on either side of the body, just below the head. Sew in place using the tails.
    • Attach the legs at the bottom of the body, ensuring they are evenly spaced for balance.
  • Sew Spikes to the Back:
    • Starting from the top of the head, sew each spike along the centerline of the head and body. Leave equal spacing between each spike for a uniform look.
  • Attach the Tail: Sew the tail to the back of the body, aligning it with the row of spikes.

Finishing Touches

  • Stuff the Body: Add fiberfill to the body cavity to achieve the desired firmness.
  • Pillow Insert (Optional): Insert a fabric pillow or additional fiberfill for a plush finish.
  • Close the bottom of the body with Sc, or sew it shut using a needle and yarn.
