Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Penelope Dress Pattern:
Bodice
- Foundation Round: Ch 72 (80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120). Attatch with a sl st to form a ring.. Be careful not to twist.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc in each ch around. Unite with sl st. Stitch Count: 72 (80, 88, 96, 104, 112, 120 dc).
- Round 2 (Increase): Ch 3, dc in each of the next 11 (12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17) sts, inc in the next st (2 dc in 1 st); rep from to around. Link with sl st. Stitch Count: 78 (86, 94, 102, 110, 118, 126 dc).
- Rounds 3-7: Ch 3, work dc in each st around. Attatch with sl st at the end of each round. Attach with sl st. Work evenly in dc (no increases).
- Round 8 (Armhole Shaping): Ch 3, dc in each of the next 10 (11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) sts, sk the next 6 (6, 6, 8, 8, 10, 10) sts to form the armhole; rep from to around. Add with sl st.
Skirt
- Round 1 (Joining): Attach yarn at the bottom of the bodice with sl st. Ch 3, work dc evenly around. Bond with sl st. Stitch Count: Match the last round of the bodice.
- Round 2: Ch 3, work dc in each st around. Merge with a sl st to the top of the starting ch-3. Blend with sl st.
- Round 3 (Increase): Ch 3, dc in each of the next 5 sts, inc in the next st (2 dc in 1 st); rep from to around. Pair with sl st. Stitch Count: Increases by 12–20 sts depending on size.
- Rounds 4–15: Alternate between:
- Even Rounds: Ch 3, work dc in each st around. Rejoin with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning ch-3. Tie with sl st.
- Increase Rounds: Ch 3, dc in the next 6 (8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18) sts, inc in the next st; rep from to around. Fasten with sl st. Work these rounds until the desired flare and length are achieved.

Straps
- First Strap: Merge yarn to the back of the bodice at the desired strap position with a sl st.
- Row 1: Ch 3, dc in the next 4 sts. Turn. (5 dc)
- Rows 2–12 (or desired length): Ch 3, dc in each st across. Turn.
- Second Strap: Repeat as for the first strap, ensuring it is evenly positioned on the bodice.
- Sew straps securely to the front bodice using a tapestry needle and matching yarn.
Finishing Touches
