Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Water Balloons Pattern:
Start with a Magic Ring (or Ch 4 and join with a Sl st to form a ring):
- When you’re using a magic ring, create one by wrapping the yarn around your fingers, then pulling the yarn through to create a loop. This will be the base of your balloon.
- Alternatively, chain 4, then join with a slip stitch into the first chain to form a small ring.
- Round 1:

- Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch).
- Make 6 sc into the magic ring (or the ring formed by your ch 4). Tighten the ring by pulling the tail of the yarn.
- You now have 6 sc stitches in your ring.
- Total stitches for this round: 6
- Round 2:

- Ch 1 (again, this does not count as a stitch).
- Inc in each of the 6 stitches around (this means you will make 2 sc in each stitch from Round 1).
- You will have 12 stitches by the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 12
- Round 3:

- Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch).
- Sc in the next st, Inc in the next st. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
- This creates an alternating pattern of a single crochet in one stitch and an increase (2 sc) in the next stitch.
- You will have 18 stitches at the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 18
- Round 4:

- Ch 1.
- Sc in the next 2 sts, Inc in the next st. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
- This increases the stitch count by one for every 3 stitches you make.
- You will have 24 stitches by the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 24
- Round 5:

- Ch 1.
- Sc in the next 3 sts, Inc in the next st. Repeat this pattern around.
- This round further increases the size of the balloon by adding an extra stitch before each increase.
- You will have 30 stitches at the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 30
Round 6 to Round 8 (Sc in each st around):

- Ch 1 at the start of each round.
- Sc in each stitch around (30 sts for each round).
- These rounds will form the body of the water balloon, giving it a nice, round shape.
- After completing these three rounds, your piece will have a solid, spherical form.
Total stitches for each of these rounds: 30 (each round).
- Round 9:

- Ch 1.
- Sc in the next 3 sts, Dec (sc 2 sts together) over the next 2 sts. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
- The decrease will start to reduce the balloon’s size.
- You will have 24 stitches by the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 24
- Round 10:

- Ch 1.
- Sc in the next 2 sts, Dec over the next 2 sts. Repeat this pattern around.
- The decreases continue, gradually closing the balloon.
- You will have 18 stitches by the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 18
- Round 11:

- Ch 1.
- Sc in the next st, Dec over the next 2 sts. Repeat this pattern around.
- Now the balloon is closing up even more, leaving fewer stitches.
- You will have 12 stitches by the end of this round.
- Total stitches for this round: 12
- Round 12:

- Ch 1.
- Dec over every 2 sts around (sc 2 sts together in each stitch).
- This will close up the top of the balloon, leaving only 6 stitches.
- Total stitches for this round: 6
Finish:

- Sl st into the first stitch to join the round.
- FO (fasten off) by cutting the yarn, leaving a tail.
- Use a tapestry needle to weave in the ends and secure the balloon tightly.
Optional:
- When you want a more “squishy” effect, you can add a small amount of polyester fiberfill stuffing before closing the top of the balloon.
- To create colorful water balloons, you can switch yarn colors after Round 6, or use variegated yarn for a fun, multi-colored look.
