Materials Needed & Measurements:
- Yarn: Approximately 60 grams of King Cole Cottonsoft yarn.
- Hook: 3.50mm Clover Soft Touch Crochet Hook.
- Additional Tools:
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
- Gauge: 6 double crochets (dc) and 2.5 rows measure approximately 1 inch.
- Finished Measurements: Approximate diameter: 13.25 inches.
Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Swirly Doily Pattern:
Foundation Round
- Create a magic circle. (See Ambassador Crochet for details)
- (RS) ch1, work 16sc in the ring.
- Pull the loose thread to close the ring.
- Sl st to the first sc at the beginning of the row.
2nd Round
- ch2, work 2dc in the base of ch2.
- Work 2dc in each sc around.
- Sl st to the first dc at the beginning of the row. (32dc total)
3rd Round
- ch3, work 1dc in the base of ch3.
- ch1, skip 1dc, work 2dc in the next dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with ch1, skip 1dc, and sl st to the top of ch3. (16 groups of 2dc)
4th Round (Increase Row)
- Chain 3, make 1 double crochet into the same stitch as the chain and 1 double crochet into the following double crochet.
- ch1, skip ch1, work 2dc in the next dc, 1dc in the next dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with ch1, skip ch1, and sl st to the top of ch3.
5th Round (Increase Row)
- ch3, work 1dc in the base of ch3 and 1dc in each dc to the next ch1 space.
- ch1, skip ch1, work 2dc in the next dc, 1dc in each dc to the next ch1 space.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with ch1, skip ch1, and sl st to the top of ch3.
6th to 10th Rounds
- Repeat the 5th Round until you complete 10 rounds total.
- After the 10th round, there should be 9dc between each ch1 space.
11th Round
- Slip stitch into the next double crochet, chain 3, then make 1 double crochet in each of the next 6 double crochets.
- Skip 1dc, work 1vst (1dc, ch1, 1dc) in the next ch1 space, skip 1dc, work 1dc in each of the next 7dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- Complete by making a slip stitch into the top of the starting chain-3.
12th Round
- Slip stitch into the next double crochet, chain 3, then make 1 double crochet in each of the following 4 double crochets.
- Skip 2dc, work 1 shell (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in the next ch1 space, skip 2dc, work 1dc in each of the next 5dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with sl st to the top of ch3.
13th Round
- Sl st into the next dc, ch3, and work 1dc in each of the next 2dc.
- ch1, skip 3dc, work 1 group (7dc) in the next ch2 space, ch1, skip 3dc, work 1dc in each of the next 3dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with sl st to the top of ch3.
14th Round
- Sl st into the next dc.
- Skip 1dc, work (ch1, 1dc) in each of the next 7dc, ch1, skip 1dc, sl st in the next dc.
- Repeat from to around.
- End with sl st to the first sl st at the beginning of the round.
Finishing
- Fasten off and weave in ends with the tapestry needle.
