Instructions for Making the Dainty Daisy Bookmark Pattern

First Motif Instructions

The first motif sets the foundation for the bookmark and is worked using two different colours (Colour A and Colour B).

  • Rnd 1 (Colour A): With Colour A, begin by making a magic ring. Alternatively, chain 2 (Ch 2) and work into the second chain from the hook.

Work 6{ sc} into the ring (or the 2^{nd} ch from your hook if Ch 2). Join with a slip stitch (sl st) into the first stitch (1^{\{st}\{ st}) and then fasten off.

  • Rnd 2 (Colour B): With Colour B, join with a sl st in any stitch. In the same stitch as joining, work the following sequence: [Ch 2, 2{ dc}, Ch 2, sl st].

Sl st into the next stitch, then work [Ch 2, 2{ dc}, Ch 2, sl st] in the same stitch; repeat (rpt) from in each stitch around. Join with a sl st in the 1^{st} { st} and fasten off.

Second and Following Motifs Instructions (Make 4)

These motifs are worked identically to the first, except for a modification in Rnd 2 where the motif is joined to the previous motif.

The pattern suggests making 4 of these joining motifs to achieve the approximate finished size of 6.5 inches.

  • Rnd 1 (Colour A): With Colour A, make a magic ring or Ch 2. Work into the second chain from the hook. Work 6 \{ sc} into the ring (or the 2^{\{nd}} ch from your hook if Ch 2). Join with a sl st in the 1^{\{st}} \{ st} and fasten off.
  • Rnd 2 (Colour B) – Joining: With Colour B, join with a sl st in any stitch. Work the first four petals normally, following the standard petal sequence: [\{ch } 2, 2 \{ dc}, \{ ch } 2, { sl st}] into the same stitch as joining.

Sl st into the next st, then work [\{ch } 2, 2 \{ dc}, \{ ch } 2, \{ sl st}] in the same st; repeat from 3 times. (This completes 4 unjoined petals.)

Next, the joining sequence is performed for the fifth and sixth petals: Sl st into the next stitch.

Work the following joining petal sequence in the same stitch: [Ch 2, dc, sl st into the 5^{\{th}} petal of the previous motif, dc, Ch 2, sl st].

Repeat the joining sequence from * once more. Join with a sl st in the 1^{\{st}} \{ st}.

Finishing

Fasten off the yarn and weave in your ends. A tassel may also be attached to the end of the bookmark if desired.
