Stitching Instructions for Granny Square Slippers Pattern:
Create Granny Squares:
- Each slipper requires six granny squares (12 squares for a pair).
Start with the center of the square:
- Round 1: Begin by making a magic loop (this will create the center of the granny square). Then, crochet ch 3 (this counts as your first dc).
- Next, work 2 dc into the loop.
- Chain 2 (this creates the corner space), and work 3 dc into the loop. Repeat this sequence 3 more times (you should now have four sets of 3 dc).
- Join with a sl st into the top of the initial ch 3 to complete Round 1.
Round 2:
- ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), then 2 dc into the same space.
- Work ch 2, then make 3 dc into the next ch 2 space from Round 1.
- Repeat the sequence: ch 2, 3 dc into the ch 2 space.
- When you reach the last corner, ch 2 and join with a sl st to the top of the first ch 3 to close Round 2.
Round 3:
- ch 3 (counts as your 1st dc), then work 2 dc into the same space.
- For the next side, work 3 dc into the ch 2 space, followed by ch 2 (for the corner).
- Repeat this pattern for all four sides, making sure you work 3 dc in each ch 2 space and ch 2 at the corners.
- Join with a sl st into the top of the first ch 3 to close Round 3.
Final Round:
- ch 1, then work 1 sc into the first dc of Round 3.
- Continue sc along each dc on each side.
- For corners, work sc, ch 1, sc into the ch 2 corner spaces.
- After completing the final side, join with a sl st to the first sc you made in this round, then cut yarn and weave in ends.
Assembling the Slippers:
- Joining the Squares:
- Start by joining the Sole Squares: Attach a Side Square to a Sole Square by inserting your hook under the two strands of the single crochet (sc) of one square and the adjacent stitch of the square you are joining.
- Join using sc stitches, placing them evenly along the edges.
- After joining one side of the Sole Square to the Side Square, continue attaching the next side of the Side Square to the Toe Square using the same method (inserting the hook into the sc of both squares and joining with sc).
- Keep working your way around the slipper, ensuring each square joins in the correct order.
- Joining the Toe and Heel:
- After attaching the Side Squares, join the Toe Square to the top part of the slipper, using the same method as before (sc).
- Next, attach the Heel Square to the back of the slipper.
- Ensure the squares meet at the right places: where three squares converge at the corners, make sure you work 2 sc into the corner space to secure the connection.
Final Steps:
- After all the squares are joined, carefully weave in all loose yarn ends using a tapestry needle. This will ensure your slippers stay neat and sturdy.
- If you find the slippers need slight adjustments to the size, you can easily modify the fit by adjusting the size of the granny squares. Adding or removing rounds of crochet will allow you to customize the fit.
- For the perfect finish, ensure all edges are clean and smooth, with no loose ends. Your slippers should now be ready to wear!
