Stitching Instructions for Making the Le Becque Socks Pattern:

Part One – Toe: (Make two)

  • Ch 2.
  • Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join with a sl st to first sc. Ch 1, do not turn. Continue working in joined rnds, as established, throughout.
  • Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
  • Rnd 3: 2 sc in each sc around. (24 sc)
  • Rnd 4: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each of the next 5 sc; rep from around. (28 sc)
  • Rnd 5 and all further odd rounds: Sc in each sc around.
  • Rnd 6: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each of the next 6 sc; rep from around. (32 sc)
  • Continue in this manner, working 1 extra sc between each increase (4 total increases every other round) until you reach a total of 44 (48, 56, 60, 68 sts), ending after working an odd row.
  • Toe Tip: If needed, continue working rnds in sc until the toe measures 2-2.5 inches. Try on at this point to ensure a tight fit.

Part Two – Foot

The foot is worked in an all-over lace stitch. Continue working in joined rnds.

  • Rnd 1: Ch 2, skip first sc, 2 hdc in next sc, skip next sc; rep from around, join with a sl st to beg ch-2, ch 2.
  • Rnd 2: Skip first hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, skip next hdc; rep from around, join with a sl st to beg ch-2, ch 2.
  • Rep Rnd 2 until the foot is desired length minus 2 inches.

Part Three – Heel

The heel will be worked in short rows. You’ll be working one less sc each row until only 11 sts remain.

  • Row 1: Sc in each of the next 22 (25, 28, 31, 34) sts, ch 1, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked.
  • Row 2: Sc in each of the next 21 (24, 27, 30, 33) sts, ch 1, turn, leaving remaining sts unworked.
  • Continue in this manner until only 11 sts remain.
  • Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, sc in next unworked sc on row below, sl st in next row end below, turn. Continue as established until all sts have been worked.

Part Four – Leg

  • Double-check your stitch count to ensure you have 44 (48, 56, 60, 68 sts).
  • Rnd 1: Ch 2, skip first sc (same st as join), 2 hdc in next sc, skip next sc; rep from around to last sc, skip last sc, join with a sl st to beg ch-2, ch 2.
  • Rnd 2: Skip first hdc, 2 hdc in next hdc, skip next hdc; rep from around to last hdc, skip last hdc, join with a sl st to beg ch-2, ch 2.
  • Rep Rnd 2 a further 17 times or until the desired leg length is achieved.

  • Rep Rnd 1 until the sock is the desired length. Sample shows 2 repeats, for 3 complete cuff rnds.
