Stitching Instructions for Making the Snow Drops Mittens Pattern:
Start with a Magic Circle:
- Round 1: Base of Mitten Ch 1, work 10 HDC into the magic circle, pull tight (10)
- Round 2: Increasing Round 1 Ch 1, 2 HDC in each stitch around (20)
- Round 3: Increasing Round 2 Ch 1, 2 HDC, HDC, repeat from * 9 times, HDC in the last two stitches of the round (29)
- Rounds 4-6: Body of Mitten Ch 1, HDC around (29)
- Round 7: Star Stitch Round 1 Ch 2, make the first star stitch of the round (see Special Stitch instructions), and continue with star stitches around. When you reach the end of the round, HDC in the last stitch of the round (this will have already been worked into by the previous star stitch) (14 stars + 1 HDC).
- Round 8: Star Stitch Round 2 Ch 1, work 2 SC into each “eye” of the star stitches from the previous round, and SC in the last HDC stitch from the previous round. (29)
- Round 9: Body of Mitten Ch 1, HDC around (29)
- Rounds 10-15: Star Stitch Rounds 3 & 4 Repeat Rounds 7-9 two more times.
- Round 16: Star Stitch Round 3 Ch 2, make the first star stitch of the round and continue with star stitches around. When you reach the end of the round, HDC in the last stitch of the round (this will have already been worked into by the previous star stitch) (14 stars + 1 HDC).
- Round 17: Star Stitch Round 4 Ch 1, work 2 SC into the “eye” of the first star, ch 6, skip one star stitch, continue to work 2 SC into the “eye” of each star around, and SC in the last HDC stitch from the previous round. (33)

- Round 19: Star Stitch Round 5 Ch 2, make the first star stitch of the round and continue with star stitches around. When you reach the end of the round, HDC in the last stitch of the round (this will have already been worked into by the previous star stitch) (16 stars + 1 HDC).
- Round 20: Star Stitch Round 6 Ch 1, work 2 SC into the “eye” of the first 3 stars, 1 SC in the “eye” of the next star, 2 SC in the “eye” of the next 7 stars, 1 SC in the “eye” of the next star, 2 SC in the “eye” of the next 4 stars, SC in the last HDC stitch from the previous round (31)
- Round 21: Body of Mitten Ch 1, HDC around (31)
- Round 22: Star Stitch Round 7 Ch 2, make the first star stitch of the round and continue with star stitches around. When you reach the end of the round, HDC in the last stitch of the round (this will have already been worked into by the previous star stitch) (15 stars + 1 HDC).
- Round 23: Star Stitch Round 8 Ch 1, work 2 SC into the “eye” of two stars, 1 SC in the eye of the next star, repeat from * around, SC in the last HDC stitch from the previous round (26)
Cuff Instructions:
- Starting from the end of Round 23: Ch 9. In the second chain from the hook, SC in the remaining 8 chain stitches. When you get back to the beginning of the chain, sl st into the first stitch of Round 23. This creates your first row of ribbing.
- Row 2: Ribbing Round 1 Sl st into the next stitch of Round 23, ch 1, SC in BLO (back loop only) across to create your next row of ribbing. Turn. (8)
- Row 3: Ribbing Round 2 Ch 1, SC in BLO across. Sl st into the next open stitch of Round 23. (8)
- Rows 4-26: Ribbing Rounds 3 & 4 Repeat Rows 2 and 3 (alternating between even and odd rows) until you complete 26 rows around the base of the mitten.
- After completing Row 26, work through the BLO of Row 26 and the FLO of your starting chain. Sl st across to seam the cuff together. Sl st into the last stitch of Round 23. Tie off the yarn and weave in ends.
Thumb Instructions:
- Attach the Thumb:
- Round 1: Thumb Base Attach yarn into the thumb hole with a sl st. Ch 1, and work 12 HDC around the thumb hole. Some stitches may be worked into “non-traditional” spaces such as stitch posts to achieve this number. (12)
- Rounds 2-6: Thumb Body Ch 1, HDC around (12)
- Round 7: Thumb Decrease Ch 1, HDC2tog around (6)
- Cut and tie yarn leaving a long tail. Using a yarn needle, weave through every other stitch around the top. Pull to cinch the thumb shut and tie off. Weave in all ends.
Repeat the same process for Mitten #2 to complete the pair.
