Stitching Instructions for Mug Hug Trivet Pattern:

Round 1:

  • Start by making a magic ring (adjustable ring) to begin your project.
  • CH 2 (counts as the first DC), then work 11 more DC into the ring. This will give you a total of 12 DC stitches in the round.
  • Once you’ve worked your 12 DC, SL-ST into the top of the CH 2 to close the round. Tighten the magic ring and pull the yarn end to close the center.

Round 2:

  • CH 2 (counts as the first DC), then work 1 DC into the same stitch as the CH 2.
  • Now, work 2 DC into each stitch around. To do this, place 2 DC stitches into each of the 12 DC from Round 1. You should have 24 DC stitches at the end of this round.
  • SL-ST into the top of the CH 2 to close the round.

Round 3:

  • CH 2 (counts as the first DC), then work 1 DC into the next stitch.
  • Now, alternate between working 2 DC into the next stitch, followed by 1 DC into the next stitch. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
    • For example, you’ll work 2 DC in the first stitch, then 1 DC in the next, and repeat the pattern until you finish the round.
  • You will end up with 36 DC stitches at the end of Round 3.
  • SL-ST into the top of the CH 2 to join.

Round 4:

  • CH 2 (counts as the first DC), then work 1 DC into the next 2 stitches.
  • Work 2 DC into the next stitch, followed by 1 DC into the next 2 stitches. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
    • So, you’ll place 2 DC into one stitch, then 1 DC into each of the next two stitches, and repeat this sequence around.
  • You should now have 48 DC stitches at the end of Round 4.
  • SL-ST into the top of the CH 2 to join the round.

Round 5:

  • CH 2 (counts as the first DC), then work 1 DC into the next 3 stitches.
  • Work 2 DC into the next stitch, followed by 1 DC into the next 3 stitches. Repeat this pattern around the entire round.
    • You will work 2 DC into one stitch, followed by 1 DC into each of the next three stitches, and repeat this until you finish the round.
  • You should have 60 DC stitches at the end of Round 5.
  • SL-ST into the top of the CH 2 to close the round.

Round 6:

  • CH 1 (this chain will act as the first SC in this round).
  • Work SC into each DC stitch around the entire round. You will place 1 SC in each of the 60 DC stitches from Round 5.
    • Ensure you are working into the top of each DC to create a nice even edge.
  • Once you’ve worked all around the trivet, SL-ST into the first SC to join the round.

Finishing:

  • Cut the yarn, leaving a small tail.
  • Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends, making sure to weave them securely to prevent unraveling.
    • Weave the yarn through a few stitches along the edge and cut off any excess yarn.
