Stitching Instructions for Making Icecream Octopus Pattern:
Octopus Body:
- Start with a Magic Ring: Make a magic ring (or adjustable loop) and work 6 sc into the ring. Tighten the ring. (6)
- Round 1: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
- Round 2: 1 sc, inc repeat around. (18)
- Round 3: 2 sc, inc repeat around. (24)
- Round 4-6: Sc in each stitch around. (24)
- Round 7: 2 sc, dec repeat around. (18)
- Round 8: 1 sc, dec repeat around. (12)
- Round 9: Dec around. (6)
- Finish: Cut the yarn, leaving a long end for sewing the pieces together. Lightly stuff the body with fiberfill. Close the hole by pulling the yarn through the stitches and securing it.
Tentacles (Make 8):
- Make the Tentacle Base:
- Ch 20.
- Sc into the second chain from the hook, then sc across the chain until the end. (19 sc)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Curl the Tentacles:
- Gently twist each tentacle with your fingers to form curls. You can use a fabric stiffener or hairspray to hold the curl in place if desired.
- Sew the tentacles evenly around the lower edge of the octopus’s body. Use the long tail to sew each one securely in place.
Ice Cream Cone:
- Round 1:
- Ch 4, join to form a ring.
- Sc 6 into the ring. (6)
- Round 2: 1 sc, inc repeat around. (9)
- Round 3: 2 sc, inc repeat around. (12)
- Round 4: 3 sc, inc repeat around. (15)
- Round 5-7: Sc in each stitch around. (15)
- Round 8: 3 sc, dec repeat around. (12)
- Round 9: 2 sc, dec repeat around. (9)
- Finish: Cut the yarn, leaving a long end for sewing the pieces together. Lightly stuff the cone with fiberfill if needed. Close the top opening by pulling the yarn tight.
Assembling the Ice Cream Octopus:
- Attach the Cone:
- Position the ice cream cone at the bottom of the octopus body, with the open end facing down.
- Using the yarn tail from the cone, sew the cone securely to the bottom of the octopus body, making sure the connection is tight and neat.
- Add the Face:
- Attach the safety eyes between rounds 7 and 8 of the octopus body (about 1-2 stitches apart).
- Using black yarn, embroider a small smile just below the eyes.
- Optionally, use pink yarn to create two small blush spots on the cheeks to give the octopus a cute, happy look.
- Make the Cherry:
- Using red yarn, create a small ball:
- Ch 2, make 6 sc in the second chain from the hook. Join to the first sc using a slip stitch (sl st).
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Attach the cherry on top of the octopus body (above the eyes) by sewing it securely in place.
- Using red yarn, create a small ball:
- Optional Sprinkles: If desired, use rainbow or multi-colored yarn to create small stitches (or French knots) randomly on top of the octopus body and the cone to resemble sprinkles. Simply stitch small loops or dots around the top edges of the cone and body.
Final Assembly:
- Adjust the Tentacles:
- Position and curl the tentacles to your liking, ensuring they are evenly spaced around the base of the octopus body.
- If you wish for the tentacles to be firmer, use a bit of fabric stiffener and allow them to dry in the curled shape.
- Fluff the Body: Gently fluff the stuffed body and ensure the yarn is tightly secured to avoid any loose parts.
