Stitching Instructions for Making the Red Heart Bunny Garland Pattern:

Make the Bunny Head

  • Start with the head:
    • Begin by creating a magic ring.
    • Chain 2 (this counts as your first half double crochet, or hdc).
    • Make 11 hdc into the ring, totaling 12 hdc including the chain 2.
    • Join with a sl st to the top of the beginning chain 2 to form a circle.
  • Round 2:
    • Chain 2 (counts as hdc), and make 1 hdc into the same stitch.
    • 2 hdc into the next stitch.
    • Continue this around, working 2 hdc into each stitch, for a total of 24 hdc.
    • Join with a sl st at the end of the round.
  • Round 3:
    • Chain 2, and 1 hdc into the same stitch.
    • 1 hdc in the next stitch, 2 hdc in the next stitch – repeat this pattern around the circle until you have 36 hdc.
    • Join with a sl st to close the round.

Form the Bunny Ears

  • Left Ear:
    • To create the first ear, chain 8.
    • Turn and make 1 hdc in the second chain from the hook.
    • Continue with 1 hdc in each of the following chains, for a total of 7 hdc.
    • Back Half Double Crochet (Bhdc): Turn your work and use the Bhdc stitch (this is a regular half double crochet stitch worked into the back loop of each stitch) across the 7 hdc, making sure it’s worked evenly.
    • Fasten off and leave a long tail for attaching it to the bunny’s head.
  • Right Ear:
    • Repeat the same instructions for the second ear, but this time reverse the ear to attach it symmetrically on the other side of the bunny’s head.

Attach the Ears to the Head

  • Position the ears at the top of the bunny head and sew them in place using a yarn needle. Use the long tail from each ear to stitch them securely to the head.

Make the Bunny Tail (Pom-Pom)

  • Use a pom-pom maker or your fingers to create a fluffy pom-pom for the bunny’s tail.
  • Alternatively, you can use the chain and sl st method to form a smaller, circular ball using yarn, which can then be sewn onto the bunny’s back.

Assembling the Garland

  • Chain 10 (or desired length) to form the spaces between each bunny.
  • Attach each bunny head to the chain by sewing through the back of the head and the chain.
  • Continue until the garland is the desired length, placing bunnies at regular intervals.

Finishing Touches

  • Weave in any loose yarn ends using a yarn needle.
  • Optionally, you can add other decorations, like small flowers or leaves, in between the bunnies for extra flair.

Enjoy your adorable Red Heart Bunny Garland!
