Crochet Mini Easter Baskets

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn:
    • Worsted weight yarn or bulky weight yarn:
      • White color: for the sheep basket.
      • Yellow color: for the chicken basket.
      • Small amounts:
        • Black (sheep’s nose), Pink (sheep’s ears), Beige (sheep’s muzzle).
        • Orange (chicken’s beak, comb, and legs).
    • Yarn brands used:
      • Bernat Premium for the sheep.
      • Red Heart Yarns with Love for the chicken.
  • Yarn Measurements:
    • Use 2 strands of worsted weight yarn or a single strand of bulky weight yarn for the basket body.
    • Use 1 strand for smaller details (wings, comb, beak, ears, etc.).
  • Hook Size: 5.5 mm (US size I crochet hook).
  • Pattern Measurements: Basket size: 3.5 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches in height.
  • Needle: Tapestry needle for sewing pieces together.

Stitching Instructions for Making the Crochet Mini Easter Baskets Pattern:

Basket Body (Yellow Color):

  • Rnd 1: MR, ch 1, 6 sc into the ring, join with sl.st in 1st ch. (6)
  • Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join with sl.st in 1st ch. (12)
  • Rnd 3: ch 1, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (18)
  • Rnd 4: ch 1, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (24)
  • Rnd 5: ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (30)
  • Rnd 6 (BLO): ch 1, sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (35)
  • Rnds 7–14: ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl.st. (35)

Basket Rim (Choose 1 Method):

  • Rnd 15 Option 1: ch 1, sl.st in each st around, join with sl.st. (35)
  • Rnd 15 Option 2: ch 1, rev sc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, rep to end, FO and close the round.

Wings (Make 2, Yellow Color):

  • Row 1: ch 9, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 3 chs, dc in next 2 chs, 5 dc in last ch.
  • Work on opposite side: dc in next 2 chs, hdc in next 3 chs, sc in last 2 chs.

Comb (Orange Color):

  • Attach to the basket’s last round (14th st).

Assembly:

  • Attach safety eyes at 20th and 26th sts of Rnd 11.
  • Sew the beak 1 round below and centered between the eyes.
  • Align and sew the wings on each side of the basket.
  • Use orange yarn to stitch chicken legs (3 lines for toes) starting at Rnd 6, spaced 1 st apart.

Sheep Easter Basket Pattern

Basket Body (White Color):

  • Rnd 1: MR, ch 1, 6 sc into the ring, join with sl.st. (6)
  • Rnd 2: ch 1, 2 sc in each st, join with sl.st. (12)
  • Rnd 3: ch 1, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (18)
  • Rnd 4: ch 1, sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (24)
  • Rnd 5: ch 1, sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st, rep 6 times, join with sl.st. (30)
  • Rnd 6 (BLO): ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl.st. (30)
  • Rnd 7 (Turn Work): ch 1, puff st in next st, sc in next st, rep to end, join with sl.st. (30)
  • Rnd 8: ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl.st. (30)
  • Repeat Rnds 7–8 twice more.
  • Rnd 13: Work as Rnd 7.
  • Rnd 14: ch 1, sl.st in each st around, join with sl.st. FO.

Ears (Make 2, Pink and White):

  • Rnd 1 (Pink): ch 7, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next 2 chs, 5 hdc in last ch.
  • Work on opposite side: hdc in next 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts, join with sl.st. Switch to White.

Muzzle (Beige Color):

  • Rnd 1: MR, ch 2, 11 dc into the ring, join with sl.st. (11)

Assembly:

  • Sew the muzzle between the first and last round.
  • Attach safety eyes above the nose.
  • Sew the ears on both sides of Rnd 11.
