
Materials Needed & Measurements:
- Bernat Baby Blanket (Size 6) yarn in the following colors:
- Vanilla
- Seafoam
- Baby Sand
- Yarn Yardage:
- 1-1/2 skeins of Vanilla
- 1/2 skein of Seafoam
- 1/2 skein of Baby Sand
- Each skein is 220 yards long.
- A size N/P (10mm) crochet hook.
- Tapestry needle to weave in the ends.
- Finished Pattern Size: 40 inches long and 33 inches wide.
Stitch Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sk = skip
- YO = yarn over
- SHD = single half double decrease
Stitching Instructions for Making the Sandy Beach Blanket Pattern:
Step 1: Starting with Vanilla color
- ch 51. (You can chain any multiple of 2+1 to adjust the width of the blanket.)
- Row 1:
- SHD across 3rd and 4th ch from hook,
- (ch 1, SHD over next 2 ch), repeat from across to last ch,
- ch 1, 1 sc in last ch, turn.
- Total = 24 SHD.
- Row 2:
- Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch),
- SHD over first sc and next ch-1 space,
- (ch 1, SHD over next SHD, and next ch-1 space), repeat from across to last SHD,
- ch 1, sk last SHD, sc on top of skipped ch 2, turn.
- Total = 24 SHD.
- Row 3:
- Ch 2, SHD over first sc and next ch-1 space,
- (ch 1, SHD over next SHD, and next ch-1 space), repeat from across to last SHD,
- ch 1, sk last SHD, sc on top of beginning ch 2, turn.
- Total = 24 SHD.
- Repeat Row 3 until you have completed 9 rows in Vanilla color.
- Join Blue yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Vanilla color.
- Row 10:
- Repeat Row 3 in Blue color yarn and join Vanilla color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Blue yarn to pick up later.
- Row 11:
- Repeat Row 3 in Vanilla color and join Beige color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Vanilla yarn to pick up later.
- Row 12:
- Repeat Row 3 in Beige color and join Blue color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Beige yarn to pick up later.
- Repeat Rows 10, 11, and 12 two more times.
- Row 19:
- Repeat Row 3 in Blue color yarn and join Vanilla color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Blue color yarn.
- Rows 20-23:
- Repeat Row 3 in Vanilla color and join Blue color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Vanilla color yarn.
- Rows 24-27:
- Repeat Row 3 in Blue color and join Beige color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Blue color yarn.
- Rows 28-31:
- Repeat Row 3 in Beige color yarn and join Vanilla color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Beige color yarn.
- Rows 32-35:
- Repeat Row 3 in Vanilla color and join Blue color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Vanilla color yarn.
- Row 36:
- Repeat Row 3 in Blue color yarn and join Beige color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Blue yarn to pick up later.
- Row 37:
- Repeat Row 3 in Beige color and join Vanilla color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Beige yarn to pick up later.
- Row 38:
- Repeat Row 3 in Vanilla color and join Blue color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Drop Vanilla yarn to pick up later.
- Repeat Rows 36, 37, and 38 two more times.
- Row 39:
- Repeat Row 3 in Blue color yarn and join Vanilla color yarn while completing the last sc.
- Fasten off Blue color yarn.
- Rows 40-48:
- Repeat Row 3 in Vanilla color.
- Fasten off.
Border:
- Round 1:
- Work along the last row you just completed, sl st and ch 1 at the corner, 1 sc in each st and ch-1 space across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner,
- Start distributing sc sts along the side of the blanket all the way across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner,
- Continue to work sc sts along the foundation chain side, work 1 sc into the gaps on either side of each SHD, 3 sc in the corner.
- Continue to distribute sc sts along the second side of the blanket until you reach the first corner where you started, 2 sc in the corner, sl st to the first sc, do not turn.
- Round 2:
- (Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across to the next corner, 3 sc in the corner st), repeat from until you work all around the blanket,
- Sl st to the first sc, fasten off.
Finishing:
- Weave in any tails left from the color changes and yarn ends.
