Creating the Neck Opening and Assembly:
- Fold the Poncho:
- Once the body is completed, fold the piece in half with the RS facing out.
- Align the edges so that the sides of the poncho match.
- Join the Sides:
- Using sl st, join the sides from the bottom to the top, leaving a 12-inch (30 cm) opening for the neck.
- Start by inserting the hook into the first st of both sides and pulling through to join.
- Continue joining until you have left the desired neck opening.
Edging (Optional):
- Edging the Neck and Bottom:
- Neck Edging: With Color A (or your preferred color), attach the yarn at any point around the neck opening.
- Ch 1, sc evenly around the neck opening. If desired, you can work a few decorative stitches (such as a picot or shell stitch) at intervals.
- Bottom Edging: Rep the same for the bottom of the poncho by attaching yarn at any point along the bottom edge.
- Work 1 row of sc or use a decorative stitch, depending on your preference.
Finishing:
- Weave in Ends: Using a tapestry needle, weave in any loose yarn ends from color changes and joining.
- Block the Poncho: To ensure your poncho holds its shape and the colors blend nicely, you may want to lightly block the finished piece.
