Stitching Instructions for Making Crochet Twist Swancho Pattern:
Back and Front Panels (Worked in Rows):
- Start with Foundation Chain:
- For your chosen size, ch the number of stitches (for example, XS: 63, S: 66, M: 70, L: 74, XL: 78, XXL: 82, XXXL: 86).
- Turn your work.
- Row 1:
- In the 4th ch from the hook, work 1 dc.
- Dc in each st across the chain until the end.
- Turn your work.
- Row 2 and onward (repeat for body):
- Ch 3 (counts as first dc of the row).
- Dc in each st across the row.
- At the end of the row, turn your work.
- Continue for the desired length:
- Repeat Row 3 for the number of rows required for the desired length of the back/front panels.
- XS: 26″ long, S: 28″ long, M: 30″ long, L: 32″ long, XL: 34″ long, XXL: 36″ long, XXXL: 38″ long.
- End the rows: Once the panels reach the correct length, fasten off.
Creating the Twist Detail (For the Front Section):
- Divide the Front Panel: After completing the front panel, locate the center and divide the stitches into two equal sections (left side and right side).
- Twist the Sections:
- Twist the right section over the left by 180 degrees.
- Be mindful not to twist too tightly—leave some space for a natural, comfortable twist.
- Join the Sections:
- After the twist, align the two sections together and use sl st to join them.
- Ensure the twisted portion stays in place while you join the stitches.
- Continue Working the Front Panel: Once the twist is secure, continue crocheting across the row as usual.
Assembly:
- Sew the Sides Together:
- Fold the panels with the right sides facing each other.
- Use sl st or sc to sew the side edges, leaving space for the armholes (approximately 8″ to 10″ wide, depending on size).
- Create the Armholes:
- After sewing the sides, you will have armholes.
- If you desire, you can crochet around the armholes to finish with a row of sc or dc for a clean edge.
Neckline Finish:
- Crochet Around the Neckline:
- With the right side facing, attach yarn at any point along the neckline.
- Work sc evenly around the neckline.
- When you reach the starting point, sl st to join.
- Optional Neckline Edging:
- You may want to add a decorative edge:
- Ch 1, then work 1 sc in each st around.
- Repeat this for a thicker border or to add texture.
- You may want to add a decorative edge:
Bottom Edge Finish:
- Crochet Around the Bottom Edge:
- Turn your work and attach yarn at the bottom corner.
- Work 1 sc in each st across the bottom of the swancho.
- If you want a thicker bottom edge, work 1 dc in each st for the next row.
- Optional Bottom Edging:
- For additional style, work a row of sc followed by a row of dc or a combination of sc and dc for texture.
- Fasten off and weave in any loose ends.
Final Touches:
- Weave in All Ends: Use a tapestry needle to weave in the ends along the sides, neckline, and bottom.
- Block the Swucho: Lay the swancho flat and block to the correct size using a damp cloth or blocking pins to ensure it’s the right shape.
- Check Fit: Try the swancho on, adjusting armholes or the body length if needed for a comfortable fit.
