Sunday Ballet Slippers

Materials Needed & Measurements:

  • Suggested Yarn: Worsted weight/size 4/Aran yarn
  • Yarn Measurements: Approximately 100-120 yards for women’s US size 7-10
  • Hook Size: D/3.25mm crochet hook
  • Pattern Measurements:
    • Fits women’s US shoe sizes 7-10
    • Adjust length in Rows 18-19 to accommodate foot size (stop when slipper length is 1” shorter than the foot length).
  • Needle: Tapestry needle for sewing the heel and weaving in ends.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • dc3tog: double crochet three stitches together

Special Stitches:

  • Magic Circle: Used to start the slipper. Alternatively, Chain-4 and join to form a circle.
  • dc3tog: Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops on hook). Repeat twice more in the next two stitches, then yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.

Step 1: Start with the Toe

Round 1:

  • Create a magic circle.
  • Ch-2 (does not count as a stitch), work 10 dc into the magic circle.
  • Pull the circle tight and join with a sl st to the first dc. (10 sts)

Round 2:

  • Ch-2, 2 dc in each st around.
  • Join with a sl st to the first dc. (20 sts)

Round 3:

  • Ch-2, dc in first st, 2 dc in the next st, repeat around.
  • Join with a sl st. (30 sts)

Step 2: Shape the Upper Section

Rounds 4–9:

  • Ch-2, dc in each st around.
  • Join with a sl st to the first dc. (30 sts per round)

  • Ch-8, sc in the center 3 sts.
  • Ch-8, sl st to the first dc.

Step 4: Build the Body of the Slipper

Row 14:

  • Ch-2, dc in the next 21 sts. (21 sts)

Row 15:

  • Ch-2, turn. 2 dc in the first st, dc in the next 19 sts, 2 dc in the last st. (23 sts)

Row 16:

  • Ch-2, turn. Dc across all sts. (23 sts)

Row 17:

  • Ch-2, turn. 2 dc in the first st, dc in the next 21 sts, 2 dc in the last st. (25 sts)

Rows 18–(As Needed):

  • Ch-2, turn. Dc across all sts. (25 sts per row)
  • Repeat until slipper is 1” shorter than the desired length of the foot.

Step 5: Shape the Heel

Round 19 (or Last Row):

  • Ch-2, turn. Dc in the first 11 sts, dc3tog over the next 3 sts (center of heel), dc in the remaining 11 sts.
  • Do not fasten off. Join the heel by sl st to the first st of the row.

Finishing the Heel:

  • Use a tapestry needle and the mattress stitch to sew the back heel seam together.

Step 6: Add the Finishing Touches

Around the Top Opening:

  • With the toe of the slipper facing away from you, sc along the row ends up to the top of Row 14.
  • Ch-10, sc in the center st of the opening.
  • Ch-10 again, sc to the other side of Row 14.
  • Continue sc around the row ends back to the heel.

Fasten Off:

  • Secure the end and weave in all tails with the tapestry needle.

Optional Additions

  • Add a non-slip product like Sock Stop to the soles for safety.
  • Decorate with a bow or embellishment if desired.
